Here we have a trailer for Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia which seems to have a heavy emphasis on the powers the new heroine, Shanoa, will acquire in the game. And, as can be expected, we get to see her do battle with several very large boss enemies. Plus, she's kind of a fox.

I'm quite curious to see how this one pans out. Nick's impressions of it seemed largely positive, which is a good sign, and I'm very rarely disappointed by the 2D Castlevania titles. The idea of the glyphs, powers that can be applied to Shanoa's body with varying effects based on location, sounds really intruiging and could help to put a different spin on the familiar format.

Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia comes out in just under a month, on October 21st.

I'll be buying it, but I buy all of them. I'm wondering how long they can continue to put out these "Metroid-vania" games before the formula becomes stale and turns off gamers. Are any of you tired of 2D Castlevania games yet?

I suspect they have around four or five more titles to go before that happens.

Castlevania is like cheese pizza: I know exactly what I'm going to get(no surprises), but its going to be great anyway. Much like some people cant get enough of Mega Man(I enjoy that series too), Castlevania continues to be a high-quality 2d series with great RPG-elements, non-linear gameplay, beautiful 2d artwork, and a really addictive nature.

Ninj, from what I played, this one actually does have some surprises. The platforming and monster killing was the same, as was the soul stealing. But the story, the over world map, and the different types of areas you could explore were much more involved than any other 2D Castlevania.

Good stuff, way better than PoR.

I play the hell out of these games when they come out. Over and over and over and over...you get the picture. They are just amazing games, even when they tack on the stylus rune-things from Dawn of Sorrow.

And it's not just going through to play the alternate modes...I'll play them, and then go back to the start of the main game and play it through all over again.

God, I love these games.

Jonathan Holmes: Oh yeah, this is shaping up be something special. I think this is going to be the Nintendo DS' "Aria of Sorrow". What I mean is, Circle of the Moon and Harmony of Dissonance kept a formula pretty close to Symphony of the Night. Then AoS comes out with its soul system, completely different storyline, and weapon system that makes them their own style of game. DoS/PoR sticked to the AoS formula, and now OoE is here to keep the basic skeleton but shake it up a bit.

Also, I like to take this comment to once again comment that SotN >>>>>> Super Metroid.

I'm never tired of Castlevania! Though I admit, PoR was a bit of a disapointment (too short). I'm really glad they brought back an art style resembling earlier Castlevania games, instead of that anime stuff. I just hope the music keeps the same quality as SotN.

Of course, SoTN will always be greater the Super Metroid!

Well, to me.

I want this game to do many things and go very far in a lot of players minds, so lets hope the hype is deserving.

ot even close to getting tired, these games are almost the sole reason why I bought a nintendo DS.

If other companies did that type of game and the market was flooded with them, then maybe, but at one metroid-vania game per year, I cant say I will ever get tired of it. Even if som are clearly better than others...

Tired of 2D Castlevania? The day someone claims that... is the day that... I um, murder them. And their dog. Also, I don't know, most Castlevania games have plenty of bare flesh. Lots of exposed pixel boobies. Mmmm, pixel boobies.

People were getting tired after Portrait of Ruin, I remember, but Order of Ecclesia looks like it'll stir things up enough to keep them going, thankfully for me.

I'm getting a DS today, and the first thing I'm going to do is play through the two DS Castlevanias. I absolutely love the SOTN formula and can't get enough of it.

People only get tired of them when they're not well done (see: Portrait of Ruin). The good ones can keep coming.

Nowhere NEAR tired of 2D Castlevania games. It's rare that I make a special effort to buy a DS game on launch day, but this is the only series where you'll find me rabidly outside my local game store like a starving orphan. Please sir, may I have some more? :p

I can't wait to sink my teeth in to a brand new 2D Castlevania game. I've been going back and playing all of them over the past year now and love every single one of them. I've decided its one of my favorite series by far. God bless Nintendo for their awesome hand helds if nothing else, hehe.

next up. the 1999 game everyone sorely wants.

sadly, I think Konami is going to work in three or four more less memorable characters before we get to see Julius end Drac once and for all.
