Orange Box games added to Source SDK photo

Bring on the mods! Valve has announced that the Source SDK now supports The Orange Box. You know what that means, right? It means that new content Half-Life 2: Episode Two, Team Fortress 2, and Portal will be here soon enough. Included in the SDK are:

  • The Hammer World Editor, which provides the capability of creating custom levels for Source engine-based games
  • Valve's custom Faceposer tool that allows users to produce choreographed sequences in the Source engine
  • A model viewer that allows artists to preview models and their animations quickly and easily
  • Source code that allows mod makers to create their own game based on Half-Life 2 or Half-Life 2:Deathmatch
  • All of the tools required to make build custom textures and models for Source engine games

Head on over to Steam for the download, and don't forget to take a look at the release notes while you're at it.

Do any of you creative types have plans to utillize the new SDK? Some maps for Portal or Team Fortress 2 would be greatly appreciated right about now.

A tad late on this one; Portal Maps has been up and pumping out the content for a few weeks now. Now if some of that stuff could be shunted over to the 360...that would be heaven.

Oh lament! Now the buyer's remorse for purchasing the 360 version sets in. (not that I shouldn't have seen this coming...)

I own the console version, and am definitely craving more TF2 maps.

I think it would be a HUGE win for Microsoft (and Valve) if they could figure out how to get fan-created maps onto Xbox Live, either through XNA or some other means.

Yes! I have three weeks until my last exam is over and I buy my new pc. Then work begins on our mod. I have a huge amount of c++ to learn and this is going to be a year long project for me and my friend, but he's been working on weapons for the last 6 months, modeling and texturing them himself. Here's a sneak peak at the Mossberg 500 he made over the last few weeks.

Hands are a bit big, he's using the default animations for our m14 (which is super sexy) to test the shotty out ingame. Anyway with the updated source code I can finally start implementing ironsights and other crap, but I kinda have to study for my exams too :(

The release is broken, as almost all Valve updates to the SDK. Sorry to break your bubble, but you won't be seeing properly made TF2 and Portal maps for a bit longer. There's still the hacked together Portal mapping at least.
