That said, I respect OR for their efforts as long as the outcome is positive.
though operation rainfall did provide a good amount exposure for these 3 titles. so that's good :P
it's a shame the group didn't add more than those three. i would have believe with the operation if they added more titles like Fatal Frame IV, Earth Seeker, Another Code R, Disaster Day of Crisis, Nanashi No Game.
if they had pulled with Fatal Frame IV i would definitely praise the people that started the group.
Calling BS on this.
Someone just had to say "no, it was all me!"
"XSEED's prerequisites:
1. It has to be a great title.
2. It has to have some market potential in North America.
3. It has to be something that entire company is passionate about."
Is this asshole really implying that Operation Rainfall didn't secure number 2? I don't care about this game but this industry is full of assholes taking credit for shit that gamers put forth.
1. Nintendo of America didn't really have much of a choice in bringing Xenoblade Chronicles over. Seriously, other than Xenoblade, what else did they have for the Wii, Rhythm Heaven Fever? To not allow these games to be released in the States would be a stupid finical decision (especially since it did REALLY well in Europe).
2. A good chunk of the members of Operation Rainfall were massive pricks. I understand that people wanted these games to come out in the states, but if there's one thing I learned about getting what you it's this: calling someone a fag for not getting something you want isn't going to make it said thing come faster.
Yes I admit it was great for these games to get coverage, but I wouldn't exactly give these guys a pat on the back just because a few games they were asking for happened to come out, and with this interview, I feel like I'm not the only one who shares this sentiment.
Sayword. That guy is pure instinct and drive. Probably why his comments are so fun to read.
With that said, OR was a success.
XSEED Games @XSEEDGames
@OpRainfall TLS met all of our requirements for pursuing it, but OpRain is an asset to the JRPG movement as a whole. They know what's up.
Doesn't sound like XSEED thinks Operation Rainfall is completely useless.
If those numbers are correct it just proves how fucked up Nintendo of America's decisions sometimes are.
I'm good with that. Send the letters to everyone instead of just one company. It's a better way to put it in the minds of people who have the power to negotiate the release of these games.
As for OpRain...I don't really care who takes the credit, as long as I get the game in the end. I did thank them on their FB page though, because I don't buy for a minute that Ken Barry wasn't aware of OpRain when the stray thought of "Hey, this game seems interesting, let's have a look" crossed his mind. They brought awareness of these games in an organized, mature fashion. They represented how gamers can band together and rally for something in a way that doesn't make me puke in my soup.
Which is more than I can say for the Mass Effect 3 people. Thanks to them I fear the vocal minority.
Either way, thank you newfound passion for the Japanese language. Localizing games will be a thing of the past in a few years.
And fan demand = garunteed money if youre wise. It might be chump change to Nintendo, but not the likes of XSeed or Atlus.
Just to put it in perspective Altus' biggest seller's are Catherine and Demon's Souls, which never broke a million, but did sell over 500k copies. For such a small studio with lower budgets, those are huge returns.
Who wouldn't want a shot at that if a large US publisher turned it down? It's practically free money.
Maybe from XSEED's perspective, OR had nothing to do with it, but Nintendo knew damn well that they were being shat on by people who wanted the game, because that went on for months, and all the major gaming sites posted multiple articles about it. They're oblivious, but they're not that oblivious. XSEED coming in and asking to publish it might have been a happy coincidence, but they needed to offload the game on someone just for the good PR.
Oh well I was too lazy to bother actively participating in Operation Rainfall, I guess that means I'm too lazy to bother canceling my pre-order.
It is Nintendo's fault -for not picking this game up sooner- that operation rainfall had to form so that we could be sure that they knew we wanted to play this and the other two games.
Even if XSEED denies any involvement that Operation Rainfall had in bringing about this game, whether that be the actual reason to localize, or merely the buildup of hype that equates to better sales- as a member of the OpRainfall team, I'm pretty satisfied in what has been accomplished. Our real job was to make sure these types of games don't slip under the radar- and in that sense, we were successful.
check the OR, you like it so far?
check the OR, you'll love the OR.
thank you, Organized Rhyme, for the localization of these games. thank you.
#2.) OR should focus on campaigning to get this game on a system that is actually still relevant. This game is gonna have shitty sales because of its insistence on being a Wii-exclusive.
Oh wait.
Granted, Nintendo doesn't give a crap what anyone actually wants, but Operation Rainfall was probably an effective card for some executive to play during a meeting somewhere. No one can counter with "Ah, nobody wants those games, there's no interest."
Do you ever ask yourself why movie studios produce so many remakes or movies based on comic books and take so few risks? They want guaranteed audience members. For example: The Marvel Comics fan-base most likely went to see Ironman, Thor, Captain America, and the Avengers films opening night.
By raising awareness, Operation Rainfall probably increased the Last Story's fan-base, which increase Xseed's potential customers and made it a more profitable piece of business. So do not tell me it did not matter.
Anyway, I'm very happy Xseed decided to localize the game.
i have a feeling Op Rainfall did have an impact, it definitely raised the profile of those 3 games. but i think xseed is looking for a little glory here. kinda shitty they cant throw the fans a bone, or bother to localize anything good. samurai showdown sen? valhalla knights? for reals? "passion"? how about getting grand knight history or suikoden psp or 7th dragon or do only have "passion" for shitty games?
