Plentiful checkpoints, tons of cover, and regenerating health? What happened to you, first-person shooters?
Things have gotten to the point where now if we want to play at a higher difficulty, we have to put up with extremely cheap tactics from the enemy AI. Don't pretend like you don't know what I'm referring to, either. Since when is every soldier in your two-bit army as capable and determined as a T-800?
Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is here to take on these concerns with its Hardcore mode. There's a video after the break that does a tremendous job of explaining what it's all about, but here's the short of it.
You are placed in a sandbox-style environment with no HUD or cross hair, only a map -- from there, you'll need more than luck to survive. Tension, according to the people who worked on Dragon Rising, is what it's all about. That's the way I like my shooters. How about you?
Jordan Devore is Destructoid's PC gaming manager and founding ginger editor. He is said to be easy to love but difficult to know. When Samit inquired about his curious bio photo Jordan simply replied: "bitches love sandcastles" ... yet, there is no sandcastle in that photo. We may never truly understand his ways.

This is news? Operation Flashpoint was designed to be an infantry simulator. Globally, various militaries use a variant of the OFP engine for teaching tactics.
Dragon Rising is made by the company that owns the rights to the Flashpoint trademark, but the actual sequel made by the guys who developed OFP is Armed Assault 2. And it already has a 'hardcore mode' by nature, it's meant to be a hardcore simulation. I really don't see the point of bragging about this.
BTW, they always make that mistake, any fire during day time does not light up things as much, the sun is always overpowering. But in 99% of games, muzzle flash / explosions still light up the world like an a second sun..
I don't know if I'll enjoy this game. I played the Arma 2 demo and I did not like it at all. I've been interested in this game since it was announced, but if it is as complicated as Arma 2 then I'll pass.
I said this the last time you guys had news on OFP2 and I'll say it again: acknowledge ARMA 2 at least a little. Mention it or something, anywhere. The real developers of OFP1 are still kicking out there, even after getting screwed out of the OFP name. This isn't the real sequel.
Yea I've also been surprised at the lack of coverage of Arma2. I played the demo a few weeks ago, it's a fantastic game. Feels just like OFP but it's just more polished, AI is better, etc. Dragon Rising is so much more simplistic.
Awesome! I'm really looking forward to this. I'm hoping it doesn't pull a Far Cry 2 and cock up every promise it ever made. Still loved me some Far Cry 2, though.
I think I'll buy OFP:Dragon Rising...I also play Arma 2,but I think ARMA 2 lacks polish and movement/interaction animations.ANd the command sound sequience is a little rubbish..they should record individual commands and aknoledgements.

Day one buy.
