Oops: Canadian retailer uses Saints Row images to promote Grand Theft Auto IV photo

Grand Theft Auto IV is many things, but one thing it is not is THQ's Saints Row. But maybe someone should tell Canadian retailer Future Shop (owned by Best Buy Corporation), who clearly doesn't seem to know the difference.

Destructoid community member Zero Iscariot sends us this photo of a poster used to promote a GTA IV midnight launch at a Future Shop in Hamilton, Ontario. So what's wrong with this picture? While it was clearly designed to mirror the style of the classic GTA cover art, all of the images are art and screenshots from Saints Row. Whoops!

Surely the folks at Rockstar -- who I'm sure would care to distance themselves as far away from THQ's game as possible -- must have goons on speed dial to take care of problems like these.

That reminds me of this image I saw of the GTA 4 cover art on ebay, that was obviously fake. Someone had bothered to remove all the main pictures on the front cover and replace them with images of themselves that had been photoshopped in the "Grand Theft Auto" style.

I don't understand why people would bother when they have the real cover art near to hand.

Hahaha! I love it.

It's like when that official Sony site had images of Project Gotham Racing 3 up saying they were from Gran Turismo HD. WHOOPS!

Ha, that's funny. I'm pretty sure it was meant to be an inside joke... Almost like an Easter Egg. Obviously someone who works at that store made it.

Aye, got to be a joke. Pretty damn funny one, though.

Saints Row, GTA IV. They both suck ass equally compared to Crackdown.

This is that mentality that a game is a game. They're all the same. They're just video games. There's nothing memorable about them. No one will tell the difference. There's no love or passion for video games. Just change the cover. Its just some mindless criminal game.

I wonder if a lot of Canadian Future Shops might have done this.
I guess I went to the wrong midnight release (EB Games).

But regardless, if that was an inside joke (to the employees and maybe to the gaming community as a whole) that's pretty cool.

A quick Google image search for "GTA 4 cover" will reveal ineptitute of the morons that run that particular Futureshop. Their midnight launch was pathetic too, with promises of a GTA IV hat, snacks, and some guitar hero from 9-12:01, instead of the 2 hours of standing outsie in the cold and being ushered in 8 at a time and being given the hard sell on some other junk they were trying to push (Although owned by BestBuy, Futureshop employees still work on commission). Far from a launch party anyhow. Hope y'all enjoyed the pic.

This is such a Future Shop move. It just shows how much they actually know about their own products. If it says "expert" on their nametag and they want to sell you a camera, run in the other direction.

I was thinking this was an inside joke, but a quick google search later I kinda lost hope. It could still be an inside joke though!

That's super funny lol. I guess they must not have gotten good promo materials AYYY? lol crazy Canadians. The poster looks like snippets from GTA III and San Andreas which kinda makes it half credible.
