OnLive won't be at E3 (not swine flu related) photo

Electronic Entertainment Expo 2009 is sure to have plenty of shock, awe, and babes. One thing it will lack, however, is a bit of head scratching. Warner Bros.’ OnLive service -- a cloud-computed videogame delivery service -- will not be shown at E3 this year.

And, no, it’s not because of swine flu. Or nerd stink. According to OnLive executive Mike McGarvey, the reason is that E3 doesn’t work for what OnLive is.

“More than anything, E3 is a retail-oriented conference, both for retail platforms and retail publishers, and OnLive is neither,” McGarvey wrote on the OnLive blog.

Bummer. I was looking forward to giving some blank stares and nodding my head for show while being told how the technology behind OnLive works.

Maybe they have something else planned for this year? Or they're already selling it.

That's a cop out of an answer. Who doesn't want a platform to talk about their revolutionary gaming service?

While I hope that the system works, I really have doubts. Streaming video gamer service, while reducing lag to a minimum and keeping the price cheap? That's a really tall order.

Big surprise. Hope they soaked some fools out of venture capital before the end of the week it took everybody to understand that OnLive was fulla crap.

That's an answer that we all see through, and can't respect.

Whenever someone says they don't want to show up to E3 aside from leaving the ESA, their product should really come under question. See: 3D Realms. Sorry.

@McChampaign-Millionare: No Warner Bros own the on live company, like when it was announced, by warner bros as a warner bros product. Read the link ;)

Right, because having the world-wide international press of the most influential 40,000 gaming news sources there to evaluate your product for the largest reach of core gaming consumers would be a total waste of resources.

Hahahahahahaha...

Right. Good slam on the entire gaming industry who might be interested in putting their content on your service. You know, since the publishers who actually attend this conference DO show their content off and would walk by your booth, see your product and sign up to publish for your service.

I'm sure they wouldn't be interested in seeing your product at all.

I can't wait to play me some "Snake", "Ski", or "Sol.exe" on OnLive.

That'll be the hot shit we've been waiting for, for years.

It's really no big deal that they won't be there. Quite simply the product is not ready yet. Why show an unfinished product? Brett - Onlive Forum

Are they really going to label the buttons like that? L, I, V, and E buttons as face buttons? That's ridiculous. If I saw an instruction to hit the "L" button, I would totally hit the left shoulder button.
