OnLive will be released on June 17 for the PC and Mac, the same week as E3 2010. The cloud gaming service promises to offer instant streaming of PC games from various publishers such as Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, 2K Games and many more. The service will run for $14.95 and additional subscription plans will be announced closer to the launch.
OnLive will be available in the United States and the first 25,000 people that sign up for the service will get three months of access for free. Some of the launch titles will include Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age: Origins, Assassin's Creed II, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, Borderlands and Metro 2033. The MicroConsole TV Adapter that will connect OnLive to your TV will be announced later in the year.
Despite everything I've heard about the OnLive service, I'm still not sold on the idea. How about you? Have any of you been in the beta for OnLive and if so, what did you think of it?
Hamza Aziz, Destructoid's Community Director, has been here since day one. He was born when a tiger coughed up a hairball into a pool of ooze. He was one of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles before budget cuts. Hamza works as a previews editor and manages a team in San Francisco. To date he has given away tens of thousands of dollars in prizes to readers. What a dick. Actually, Hamza is as kind as he is hairy.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
If so...fuck, I'll try it.
That's what I was thinking. GameFly is $20 a month for 2 games.
Sounds like you got a virus, bro. I recommend AVG Free as an anti-virus.
I'll run a scan.
But maybe it isn't only me.
@Ryfael
same thing is happening to me on both my computers so i know its not a virus i just ran a scan...its the site i think the main link got hacked.
very in-depth look at the technology by the CEO
Good link. I won't say yay or nay until more of the actual pricing and final product plans appear
DESTRUCTIOID IS HACKED.
THIS IS NOT A DRILL.
Woah, woah, woah. Say what? You guys can keep that.
It's on the OnLive site:
"Waiver of Service Fee includes free access to OnLive’s Game Service including game demos, video profiles and community features, but does not include playing full versions of games, which are to be purchased or rented separately." (Emphasis mine).
This is disappointing. I read the articles, view the comments and click on ads and all you ask for is to not get redirected.
lmaooooooooooooooo, I think retailers still have an advantage.
Holy shit. That completely kills the whole point. This is a terrible idea. Who invested in this?
WB
The way things look, it certainly will not dethrone the consoles, like they hope it would.
Like Warner Bros.?
Wow. They should pull out now and just dump all that money into the new Arkham Asylum.
Stupid, stupid stupid.
Paying full price for something even less than that is idiotic.
And 15 bucks a month on top of that? Hell, this idea is starting to sell me on the idea of digital distribution...at least with DD you have some form of ownership, things can be redownloaded, transferred and backed up to an extent.
But this is the equivilant of giving your friend's friend some money, then having him install the game on his computer, and playing it over a network. At that point I start to really question how this shit is justified in the eyes of the company.
At least there won't be any DRM issues, right?
Tonight I play Battlefield for 4.99$.
Subscriptions are not casual friendly, and the whole onlive-lag thing is supposed to appeal to casual.
In that case dump this shit and fix the fucking reception in Houston.
Seriously how can I get full bars in the central America boonies but not in downtown Houston?
That's interesting though. Suddenly I really want to know what non-videogame companies are invested in videogames.
