Online co-op level creation not happening for LBP at launch photo

In one of the more disappointing bits of news regarding LittleBigPlanet, it appears that online cooperative level creation will not happen until a patch is released after launch. The information stems from a posting on the official PlayStation forums by a Media Molecule developer.

The ability to create with your friends online will come as part of the first major update after the game is released. Offline creating with up to 4 people on one PlayStation 3 however is available right from the get go.

The poster, Sam_Protagonist, revealed that Media Molecule are “already hard at work” on the update and it is being considered as a high priority. No date for the update has been given. As pointed out by Spong, the ability to create levels cooperatively online has always been a presumptive thing. Neither Sony nor Media Molecule has promised the ability to cooperatively create levels via PSN.

A piece of me died upon hearing this. It's like buying Mr. Bucket and realizing that there are only four balls instead of six. Mr. Bucket is totally still useable, but some of the fun has been quashed.

Ack! This is a major bummer. Hopefully that first patch will come sooner rather than later.

I'm shedding a tear or two on the inside...but this only slightly diminishes my fervor for the game.

And yet... THE GAME HAS GONE GOLD A MONTH EARLY.

Seriously now, what the hell is that?

"Oh well we're not doing that... oh we have a month left till launch? Um... well... no we'd rather just sit around jerking it"

I've waited this long already for LBP, a little more waiting won't kill me. But it is a little disappointing.

I am sure I will be more than happy to play the actual game for awhile before needing this extra feature.

At least they are going to add it, a very cool feature but I never remember hearing about that until now. Its still a do want.

You're creating unique things on the fly and then it needs to be replicate on each individual's screen over PSN. I think a bit more work's involved then simply sending X/Y coordinates.

Cut them some slack. I'm sure many of us will still be trying to master the basic creation tools to even care about online co-op level creation upon release.

Given the anarchy that takes place with similar games such as garry's mod, it's no big deal to me that it's not included at launch.

Something to look forward to, but it's hardly the be-all-end-all of LBP. Can't say I consider it to be critical enough that I'm disappointed. I'm far more excited about designing my own levels, and playing through other levels cooperatively.

THIS IS A CATASTROPHE!
oh wait,
No I'm fine with this, I would like to develop some top-secret techniques before unleashing them on my friends of the world.

I don't need this feature at launch. Damn, I don't have that many friends with ps3's anyway. Oh well..

I never even knew that there was online co-op level creations....sounds dumb to me.

If I make a level I want to do it myself Ican't imagine how many people that are going to piss around making shit while others are working hard.

This sounds like a VERY bad idea anyway, has anyone ever collaborated on a LEGO project, bad idea.

I didn't knew you could create while in multiplayer, but unlike mix, I think it's great. I'll probably only play it offline at the beginning anyway, while I convince my friends to get the game themselves

Doesn't really bother me especially if they're patching it in later, im going to be spending the first month or so playing through the single player levels and learning how to use the tools effectively so i can make my kick ass zombie apocalypse level :D

really this doesn't seem like a huge disappointment. It is going to be in the first update and it'll probably take me that long to finish the main campaign anyway.

by the by who else has played the co-op zelda four swords....and by co-op i mean screwing each other over for them rupees. My point being co-op isn't always a good thing and unless you are actually playing with someone you know (and even then not always) it's probably not a very important feature i can create my own genitals thank you.
