Once Upon a Pixel Season 1 DVD now on sale photo

Once Upon a Pixel is my favorite gaming related video series on the internet. Unlike most shows about games and gamers, Once Upon a Pixel never goes for the cheap laugh or the unwarranted misappropriation of the source material. You wont see Sonic as a potty-mouthed lout or Mario as a blood thirsty maniac here. Although that kind of "kid friendly characters get mean and gross" comedy almost always gets a laugh, it rarely has much to say. With Once Upon a Pixel, Ashley and Anthony clearly wanted more than that. Sure the show is funny, but it's also a smart, heartfelt, and most importantly, genuine love letter to gaming.

That's why I'll be picking up their series now that it's on DVD. The bonus features alone make it worth the purchase -- commentary from Anthony and Ashley, lessons on drawing your favorite videogame characters from Ashley, and all the art every used from the series ever created.

If that's not worth a few of your hard earned bucks, I don't know what is.

You put it best, Holmes-- Anthony and Blavis respect their subject material and their viewers in their respective shows, and thats what makes them unique, amazing, and actually funny. I can't tell you how often I skip over videos about Mario, Sonic, Mega Man, etc because they tend to just go the route of "derp, Mario jumps ons stuff, so lets turn that into curbstomping." OUP transforms that into a spoof on the Godzilla monster movie and HAWP into poop jokes.

Brilliant.

I should watch these, since I've never found "...Sonic as a potty-mouthed lout or Mario as a blood thirsty maniac..." funny.

I'd love to get this and the HAWP DVDs, but I live in Brazil and I think the shipping will probably be outrageous.

Wouldn't it be standard procedure to mention your affiliation with the production you're endorsing?

I had to find it out through a youtube clip, which only hurts the credibility of your seemingly sincere recommendation.

I enjoyed once upon a pixel so much so that I'm willing to break my "no paying for something that's free on the internet" rule. Too bad I lack proper funds at the moment.

@ JonathanCAtlman. No one who works on Once Upon a Pixel works for Dtoid anymore, and the series is not commercially affiliated with Dtoid either. Basically, we're not commercially connected in any way.

I'm glad you asked though. Gave me the opportunity to clear up any confusion there might be on the matter.

The Silent Hill 2 one is genius.

But it makes me sad that I probably won't be able to play this. Being in the UK 'n all, me DVD player throws a hissy fit when I got the HAWP season 1 DVD. Sigh.

All ready put an order in yestarday or the day before. My g/f hopes there would be a A to Z megaman book so she can use it to teach her class room. Plus, I hope this helps support them in making more great videos. The art style rocks!
