Time to pull out your party hats, shmup fans! Word has it that Omega 5 will finally hit Live Arcade on January 9 after apparently being finished for some time now.

Unfamiliar with Hudson's latest venture into XBLA? The above video (done by our very own Greybush), should answer any questions you might have.

Since the official press release hasn't been sent out yet, there's really not much more to say on the matter. Omega 5 will be here next Wednesday, it looks stunning for a Live Arcade game, and it'll most likely cost 800 Microsoft Points.

Are you guys ready to get your pew pew pew on?

Wait! Why pass up on informing people of the almighty Metal Slug 3 hitting arcades today?!

I need people to play this game with me, dammit. Both of them.

If only they made it so you were ships and not dumb looking flying people I would buy this.

But, alas, dumb flying people = no sale.

How old are you guys? Apparently not as old as me. It's basically a Forgotten Worlds clone, with upgraded graphics of course. Why do you guys always fail to see the obvious?

Grim and Snaileb, watch out if/when you get online with MS3.. :P So far my experiences today with a ping ~70-80, the netcode is pretty bad and will cause a lot of frustrating death.

I'd try to raise hopes with optimistic speech of a patch or something, but... *looks at Sonic 2, /sigh*

Greybush's voice makes me sleepy. It's in a good way though, I want him to read me stories before I go to sleep.

Granted maybe I'm just exhausted and ready to go home from work...nah it's his voice.

Rock Band DLC has been sucking up all my money lately, but this looks too awesome to pass up. Plus we need to support the actual "good" XBLA original games since they are so few and far between.

I might try the demo, but this probably won't be a sale for me. I suck something fierce at shmups, and Rock Band DLC should take up a good amount of my MS points.

Wartech gets enough praise from Dtoid. (It deserves all of the praise too, I love that game. I bought it for 60, played the hell out of it, traded it in for 30, and recently picked it up again for 5.99. win!)

Forgotten Worlds sucks, two "partners" in tank tops, flying around shooting things...... Omega 5 looks like it could be cool though. Also...... $10 seems a little steep for Metal Slug 3, but then again.... I've probably spent more than that on the arcade versions so I will tell myself to shut up. Also again, I noticed on the demo for Metal Slug that there was a free play option. That's awesome. If you OWN an arcade cabinet, you can toggle it to free play, more arcade releases need to do this.

Also one more time, NBA Jam TE and Killer Instinct need to be released already. I will buy both of them on day one.

I never said Forgotten Worlds topped it or anything. I was just saying its obvious the concept comes from Forgotten Worlds. The character hovers and rotates in the same manner. Forgotten Worlds had levels that scrolled upwards as well, not sure if Omega 5 incorporates that as well.

Steel Squirrel - 'Forgotten Worlds sucks, two "partners" in tank tops"

It's not that far off from Contra, yet Contra is beloved, but its still two partners all buffed out and cheesy looking.

The Genesis game(or rather Mega Drive, since it never hit the US)? It came out on Virtual Console at the end of November...

Was the grappling hook deflecting bullets? it seemed like bullets hit the grapple and just vanished. Could use that thing to cut a swathe through a sea of bullets when it gets too tough.

Other than that, neat game. I adore these kind of games, although i suck so badly at them.
