Ole! Sony expands PlayStation into Latin America photo

It's now official: 13 countries in Latin America will see the rollout of the PS3, PSP, and PS2 systems now as SCEA expands. This is a partnership with Sony Latin America, and will bring "select countries" the PlayStation goods, including the PlayStation Network and a new Latin PlayStation Web site lineup.

“Our commitment to expand PlayStation business into Latin America supports our vision to provide access to social entertainment experiences that can be shared among friends and family from around the world,” said Mark Stanley, director and general manager, Latin America, SCEA.

“This expansion is the direct result of us listening closely to our community, and we’re proud to deliver premium hardware and software services that will allow them to easily connect, play and communicate with one another.”

I'm sure hardcore Latin American gamers already have some of the PlayStation line, but now they can formally take part in the PlayStation world. I wonder which countries got the shaft.

Does that mean T Hawk can play now?

Wait... T Hawk confuses me. He looks Native American, but his level looks like a Mexican village. So confused.

Wow, it took them only 14 years. This is good, because even though you CAN buy Playstation products down here at Wal-Mart, etc.. they're usually stupidly overpriced because they have to import all this stuff. $900-$1100 launch PS3 anyone?

However even though we have Nintendo down here, the Wii still sells for over $400

Great news I guees, if you don't already own a console. Cause games are pretty evenly priced I mean I just bought today SF4 for 1000$ pesos wich equals about 70 dlls, and our prices already include taxes soo I guees console prices are the only really benefiting front.

O wait, I also wish they tould give us some sort of movie store functionality with this, since as it stands we can't access anything movie related.

If only PSN and Xbox live were strengthen in Latin america then I could easily private chat Family from Mexico and Chile!!!

Oh and Mexico's fans do have to start every morning with a sombrero dance followed with tequila and various shots in the air with our colts and uzis...good times

"Also, olé is a Spanish expression, not latin at all :("

ahahahahahahha so true, somehow, reading that comment and watching the picture of the article made me remember of this:

http://www.iranian.com/Anyway/2004/March/Images/america.jpg

xD xD xD

oh, and btw, here is the list of the countries:

Liz Archibald from Sony America updated us on the specific regions, saying, "These countries include Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru and Venezuela. Additional services such as PlayStation Network, will be introduced in a phased roll-out to select countries."

And it's weird because the psp, the ps2 and the ps3 were officially released, at least in Chile, last year.

I really dont think that this will make any difference here in Brazil. Mostly because piracy and Smuggling play a good part in brazilian videogame market.
And you cant really blame brazilian gamers, once here the minimum wage is like less than 250 dollars a month, most of the population is poor and a brazilian xbox 360 (the only next gen console officialy marketed here I guess) cost something around 1100 dollars. (around 700 dollars in taxes)
Even if you want to buy it legal, you can just import by yourself and pay 60% of the price asked here

Uh oh.. I somehow felt safer with my USA games before. now if they enter Brazil with the PSN, they will really want to block outside content. I can bet it will be way worse than the US (hell, even the european PSN is a joke), So I will still be on the american one. On the other side, if I can find low ping servers around, it will be a good thing.

Also I read shaoran comment. Brazil is probably out because we don't speak spanish. good.

Great! I've waited a long time for a game company to actually recognize Mexico and Latin America. I hope this results in better content for the Mexican Playstation store which is very very empy

I am fairly sure "Ole!" is an expression from Spain and not from any Latin American country.
