Activision has made an announcement this morning about some of the voice talent which will be appearing in Call of Duty: Black Ops. It's now officially confirmed that Treyarch has brought Gary Oldman back to reprise the role he played in World at War, Victor Reznov. Ed Harris (The Abyss) will be providing his voice to a CIA operative named Jason Hudson.
In addition to the voice talent, another Hollywood name has been attached to the project. David S. Goyer (Dark City, The Dark Knight) has signed on as a consultant for the script and story development.
I will admit to liking many of the films Goyer has written (probably more of them than I should), but he seems like an odd choice to be consulting on a serious game set in WWII the Cold War. That is not to say his talents would be wasted on such an exercise or that he would have nothing to contribute. It just seems to me like the guy who wrote Demonic Toys and Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. isn't the first guy I would think of to help out on a project like this. Or the fiftieth, for that matter.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Not that I'm criticizing, but damn. That seems weird.

Is Black Ops set in WWII?! I was looking forward to some Cold War shenanigans with the KGB and all that malarkey.
Personally, I'd like to see Spud from Trainspotting get one of these roles. Just to keep big Kevin company.
Even better, Roger Moore (he *is* still alive) and the theme from Wild Geese by Joan Armatrading... the film is an essential post-pub classic!
CoD:PMC - Revenge of the Mercs
:) I would buy
Hope it's longer this time, but it doesn't bother me because I'm not buying it.
GIMME MORE K...JACK GODDAMM BAUER.
My bad.
The Cold War essentially began a few months after WW2 so it's completely possible, since the game goes throughout the Cold War, that Reznov would be alive and still in the USSR Army at the beginning of the game.
*klops
I hate to disagree but I'd rather have Oldman then Harrison Ford 2.0, Reznov's character had so much more depth and he felt like he had been through hell and bak. Keifer was just a cut and dry "Amuhricuh, fuck yeaaarh War is hell" character.
But for all that's good in this world, David S. Goyer? The excecutive producer of that nuclear dud "Flash Forward?!" HAH. Oh, let us not forget, executive producer of Ghost Rider the movie. What a sad man.
When your on the battlefield, you don't have much of a choice. But he had depth as well given the briefing dialoge gives hints of sadness of the reality of the situation.
Also, it seems most likely BO will take place in just the late '60s.
@infinitestriek: Since this is the Cold War, convoluted plots actually make sense given the territory.
@Sir Legend: It's tradition for Call of Duty to have Hollywood talent. =/
