Those good old Middle-Earth gals sure know how to pitch expansion packs.
Earlier this morning, Turbine released another teaser trailer for Siege of Mirkwood, the next expansion for Lord of the Rings Online. Launching on December 1st in North America, the expansion, as most tend to do, adds a chunk of land to the core game and introduces new plot elements, raids, and Legendary Weapon tiers.
Also, more trees. It adds a lot of trees.
On a semi-related note, Turbine is running a few Siege of Mirkwood pre-launch offers. Anyone who renews or upgrades his or her subscription to LOTRO before October 31st gets this expansion for free. Also, Turbine is offering Lifetime LOTRO Memberships for $199. Nice price, but we’re sure cats, significant others, and family won’t be too happy with you once they hear you just dropped that kind of dough.
I played this game for awhile for some odd reason. I have no idea why. I'll never forget the moment I decided to cancel my account, I said to myself, "Wait.... why did I put so much time and effort into just one video game?"
I felt like I dismissed my passion for playing many different kinds of video games just to play one single one, that wasn't even that great in retrospect.
Oh well. Glad to see it's still going strong, I guess.
A friend of mine is gonna play the game at the studio's to try it out. And the lucky bastard doesn't even like MMO's. If you're interested I can send him some questions so he can answer them if he can.
I like LotRO. I do. It's the furthest I've ever gotten itno an MMO. Haven't played it in quite some time though...
But... it's just getting a bit repetitive. I mean, the Mines of Moria expansion at least had the novelty of being undergound with some cool scenery.. but watching this trailer made me think two things:
1. It's all well and good to be dramatic about monsters and orcs and things 'worse still' but once you've slayed countless of the same type of baddie, it's not that inspiring.
2. Trees. There are already a large number of tree environs in the game. Why would I want an expansion with MORE TREES?
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?

Trees was my biggest complaint at launch.

Honestly, LoTRO is way more fun for a tolkien geek >.>
