So Activision sent out a Band Hero press release today and was all like, "OMG, Taylor Swift makes her videogame debut, guys!" They go on to say that, not only will she appear in the game, but so will her songs "You Belong to Me," "Picture To Burn," and "Love Story."
We assume that this triple-attack of country-pop songs is as exciting to teeny-boppers as the three Tool songs that appeared in
Guitar Hero: World Tour were to mopey, miserable looking dudes with long, greasy hair. Activision says Band Hero is the "the biggest music event to hit living rooms this holiday season," and we agree with that statement... but not because of Taylor Swift (
which is old news, BTW OMG).
Because, uh, STYX "Mr. Roboto" (also known around the office as "Mr. Effin' Roboto") has been announced as one of the game's playable tracks. The songs joins a bunch of other just-announced tracks that aren't "Mr. Roboto," like some Hillary Duff song and a Kylie Minogue/Robbie Williams duet.
You can see the new tracks (along with the previously announced ones) after the jump, but... "Mr. Roboto" guys!

Taylor, I'm really happy for you, and I'm gonna let you finish---(insert better topic here)
I still don't understand the obsession with "Mr. Roboto" for anything other than pure kitsch-factor. Styx hates the song (except for Dennis DeYoung) and it's the lowest point in their career.
Don't get me wrong, I love 'em, but it seems out of place. I swear it's just a "me too!" for Rock Band 2 having Our Truth.
The only song that I'd actually like to play is Sugar, We're Going Down. My wife is a huge sucker for Fall Out Boy.
Yeah, this is going to sell a bajillion copies, and I will cry with every one sold. On the plus side, hopefully RB2 will sift through this mess, pull out the best songs, and release us some DLC! We can only hope.
Anyway. Mr Roboto, YMCA and Kung Fu Fighting? I'm sold.
@Aceflibble
I think what he means is this game is very pop, Top 40s oritented. Plus this isn't Rock Band. Also Lacuna Coil has three songs last I counted in RB. One on disc and two playable.
@DanGale
After the Kanye debacle I gave Swift a try and she's definitely my new guilty. Shhh! Don't tell anyone! I hang out with pretentious music snobs and they'll cut me if they find out.
BUT STYX!!!
Yeah, that's what I meant. They are very metal (like the other bands you mentioned...and I love them all too), which REALLY seems out of place for me here. This seems more like "Kids Bop" and "Now That's What I call Music!" oriented instead of stuff college students listen to.
But I completely 100% agree on Nightwish; I've been wanting it forever. Get me some Wishmaster and Amaranth (maybe End of All Hope) and I'll be set for life. They also need Within Temptation on Rock Band...
Anyways, it looks like I'll be skipping on this one. There's a distinct lack of Metal here. I'll stick to Gh5, Rb2, and RB:The Beatles for my plastic instrument music enjoyments.
Taylor Swift, Fallout Boy, Jesse McCartney, and Hilary Duff?
Look at the rock that was brought in Guitar Hero II and tell me this is okay. How did we get here?
I miss the cool Guitar Hero... like Guitar Hero 2 BEST SET LIST EVER!
Metallica was ok... but everything else after Guitar Hero 2 has been all sappy and pop oriented... with one or two gems not worth shelling money for.
Teeheehee.
Aren't half of these tracks on Rock Band already? I know that the.. um, two that look even remotely interesting are.
