SNK announced today King of Fighters XIII for the arcade. Not much was revealed other than that it would run on the same Taito Type X2 arcade board used for King of Fighters XII. No release date was announced either and SNK isn't saying if there will be a console version just yet.
So yeah, that's really all there is to know. King of Fighters XIII is a thing that will be happening. To make up for the lack of anything really useful in this announcement, please check out one of the best YouTube videos from 2007 above by Kajetokun, the Over 9000 guy.
Hamza Aziz, Destructoid's Community Director, has been here since day one. He was born when a tiger coughed up a hairball into a pool of ooze. He was one of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles before budget cuts. Hamza works as a previews editor and manages a team in San Francisco. To date he has given away tens of thousands of dollars in prizes to readers. What a dick. Actually, Hamza is as kind as he is hairy.

As long as they include a cast of around 40 fighters and fix the stupid counter system, KOF 13 can be great. 12 had decent fighting, just gimped fighters and really easy guard breaks.
This probably will have no garou characters, and especially not Kain or Kim Dong Hwan. Let's hope it's at least a solid game though. KOF12 was just sad.
If KoF XII wouldn't have been so bare-bones (in terms or characters and features), it would have been fine. The game was dead to me without Vice and Vanessa. Luckily, Blazblue was there to easy the pain.
Anyway, I have high hopes that KoF XIII will be what XII should have been.
Regardless of all the hate XII got, I really enjoyed it, and thought it was the most balanced fighting game I played in years. Although after paying as much as I did for XII, I expect XIII to have even more characters, a return to the story they had been building up since 03, at least one boss character to make everyone realize Seth is nothing compared to other bosses in SNK fighting games, and the return of Geese/Mai. Would make it a day one purchase instead of a craigslist buy.
King of Fighters XII was a solid fighter. It just lacked all the extras, secrets and easter eggs so many people expect from fighting games these days. Aside from that, it was solid, and the most balanced 2D fighter I've played.
Obviously, not the best in the series, but seriously - did you expect it to be? They were starting from scratch. All the other KOFs have been building on the foundation set by KOF'94. Try playing KOF'94 again, and tell me if that mess of a game was playable for not.
So long as they are building KOFXIII on top of KOFXII, it should be good. It'll be like comparing the dystopia of Street Fighter Alpha: Warrior's Dreams to the paradise of fighting that was Street Fighter Alpha 2.
Oh yeah - and the net-code for KOFXII sucked. Seriously, SNK - just license GGPO. Or steal it, I don't care - the netcode you've been using for KOFXII and all your XBLA re-releases has got to go.
that is probably still, after watching it for the first time the day it was uploaded, my favourite Youtube clip EVER.
I didn't really play KoF XII, but it (mostly) looks pretty good. I think the game really deserves a sequel and all (although seeing SNK's previous work I wonder just how much will change), but I honestly think they should just try to make Capcom vs SNK 3 happen instead. much more people would care and it would probably make a better game. ah well, some day it will hopefully happen and I will shout "OKAY!" into the night...
As for KoFXIII, I hope to god SNK shift the game to 3D. Its the only way to give this series what it really deserves. They should push the 3D stuff, and if need be, get some help from Capcom or Namco. I'd hate for this series to be forgotten like MK.
Cowboy TTop, play the KOF:Maximum Impact series. They're pretty fun IMHO, but I think SNK should keep 3d as a side project especially with how horrid looking Samurai Shodown Sen turned out. Along with extending the roster, I hope there are additional features more like KOFXI had. Hell, I think it should be basic for fighting games to have a challenge mode and an art gallery.

I want to muster excitement for this, but I can't yet.
I love the series but XII was very bare bones for the most part. Short arcade version, few levels and a small roster for a KoF game. I still don't really understand the exclusion of Mai. I played it and learned some fun combos with Benimaru but overall I feel bad for those that paid full retail price.
Also I seem to be one of the very few that enjoyed Maximum Impact. Well Max Impact 2. I played the HELL out of that game. Love B Jenet so much.

KoFXIII? Can I has more characters plez?
Dear god, I haven't laughed that much since Deadly Premonition.
I'm still holding out hope for a Neo Geo Battle Coliseum 2, or Maximum Impact 3 though.
Anyway, I have high hopes that KoF XIII will be what XII should have been.

If it had Rock, this would be an INSTANT BUY for me. But I guess not... :(

GOD NO, don't make KOF 3D. God F***ing No, don't make it 3D.
Putting it in 3D isn't going to help it. It's only going to alienate fans like they already did with Maximum Impact.

1. I beat single player inside of 10 minutes.
2. I got my ass handed to me every round online.
