Okamiden to be revealed in next week's Famitsu photo

There have been rumblings as of late, regarding something called "Okamiden," which Siliconera first discovered upon poking through some of Capcom's trademarks. The company was found to own the rights to the word, and the popular belief and/or hope is that it could be an Okami sequel. "OMG what else could it be!?" you might ask.

Well, thanks to 7-Eleven (of all places) we're about to find out next week. Andriasang reports that the company's e-commerce site shows a listing for the upcoming September 17th issue of Famitsu, (which hits newsstands on September 3rd), with the contents of said issue marked only as "Okamiden."

With Clover studios sadly out of the picture, it's hard to jump right on this and declare that it absolutely must be a new Okami title, especially since the word "Okami" itself is not altogether uncommon. It sure would be nice though, wouldn't it? Looks like we'll find out for sure on Septmber 3rd, and we'll let you know regardless.

Damn! That's good news! I wonder on which console though. It's probably gonna be the Wii I guess. I'm gonna poop myself if it's going to be on the PS3.

You know what I think this Okamiden is?

Okami on DS and iPhone, the place where the game should have been ages ago, due to its touch/draw interface.

Yep, I'd buy that in a heartbeat.

This would warm by icey gamer heart and make it grow three sizes. Especially all the beauty of the Okami world on PS3/360. Brings a tear to my eye *sniff*.

I'm very upset at how capcom treated clover they even cut them out of the credits on the Wii port. So i just hope that this doesn't have anything to do with Okami

After doing Okami twice on home consoles, I think hand helds like DS would be a better for Okami so they can reach the casual who normally missed the game. On top of that, with good advertising in the right places it could be the hit it deserves to be.

Now, if Capcom could get Zack and Wiki on DS too, I'd certainly check that out.

Not sure what to make of this with Platinum having moved on. Still, I hope it's good and I hope it sells.

Okami was great. I'm not sure i want a sequel if the original designer isn't present.

Don't get me wrong, because I LOVE Okami........

But...why the hell would they make a sequel to a game that sold so shittily? It seems like sure fire way to go out of business.

I suppose if it's a DS game it would be pennies to develop though.

Remake God Hand instead you chumps!

Thinking about the possiblility of a new Okami made me realize that I regard the first game as one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had. Like, EVER. A next gen sequel would slightly edge out Brutal Legend as my most anticipated game.

@Magnalon: YES! That games needs a sequel!

I actually didn't like Okami. It was 60 hours of style over substance. Once they revealed that stupid twist about the demons' origins, I completely gave up on trying to like it.

Clover Studios once stated that they wanted to do something different with the look of the game but couldn't because the PS2 wasn't capable of the artistic style they were trying to achieve.

I ponder deeply, "What if... Okami was made TODAY?" Would they be able to achieve this goal, if given the chance? $60 of mine is willing to find out.

@EnigmaticHarle,

I think you're confusing a quote by the Clover Team.

Originally, Okami was supposed to have lifelike, more realistic graphics (there are some pics and vids lying around somewhere), but the team found that they couldn't achieve the level of realism that they wanted on the system.

This is what led them to use the final art style that they did. I can't imagine anyone would think the game were better with traditional, realistic graphics, so I don't think they'd mess with the universally acclaimed awesome art style of the last one.

Hmm... Part of me wants to call port but I don't think a magazine would make a big deal out of a port for a game that's been on shelves for ages.

As a person who has played through Okami five times I hope this really isn't a sequel...

My guess is -if this at all linked to Okami- it's a hand-held game and it's about Amaterasu in the Shiranui era... Actually that's a game I'd honestly like to see.

A main console game not so much... Definitely no more wii-games. I just didn't like anything about the port except the ability to skip the story bits... Hell I didn't even like the way they muted the voices...

I doubt Okamiden has anything to do with a new Okami and now I'm depressed.

If Platinum Games wants to lower the rate of teenage suicide, they better as hell make a new Okami.

In many ways, Okami is a beautiful thing. It incorporates a lot of Japanese mythology tied together by great characters, art, music and of course a tight narrative. I feel that Okami is more of three stories tied into one - there is the resurrection of Orochi to begin with, then the whole thing with the fox demon and then the arc with Yamuchi (I hope I spelled that right?). It's also a very long game - I think it could have been split into three games and not many people would have complained about the length. However, even though Okami is one of the tightest, most complete gaming experiences out there, I would LOVE a sequel. If this is true, let's hope it can live up to the quality of the first game, maybe even surpass it. But it shall be hard now that Clover Studios has been closed and the founders have moved on to found Platinum games. However, surely Platinum games could develop Okamiden? I'm pretty sure the three-game deal with Sega is just a publishing deal for MadWorld, Bayonetta and Infinite Space. So surely they could develop Okamiden for Capcom? I would love that!

You know, normally I'd complain about all the negative Wii comments in here, but the Wii version of Okami really did suck in comparison to the original, didn't it?

If it is a new Okami, it had better have something to do with the former Clover studios. Those guys brought SO much imagination to the forefront of game design and pure asthetic bliss. Take a look at Viewtiful Joe, God Hand, and even the upcoming Bayonetta - they've got "it."

However, even with a list of pure awesome that long, Okami stands at the top, and anyone who doesn't think so can rightly go fuck themselves. That game is phenomenal. Admit it already.

It stands the test of time, even in 480i and 4:3 on the PS2. If it were to have the great fortune to receive a sequel, the PS3 and 360 is the place for it, leave the Wii behind already unless you feel like walking an already trodden path.

And everyone who played the PS2 version and the Wii version knows what I'm talking about.
