What do you mean by "these open world games usually see you playing as bad guys"? Basically every open world game I have played had me controlling either a good character or a character that could be good or just as easily kill everyone in sight (like Fallout). Or, are you describing Asian gangland games, which I have never played before..but my interest has grown, especially with this game.
Ok I tried my best since last month not to comment about Sleeping Dogs. Why? I used to live and Work in Hong Kong, china between 2004 and 2009 and One of my customer was actually a HKPF Police Inspector. And yeah HKPD? lol. I'm not and won't be a smart-ass but yes , HPF has much more to do With British Police force in its look and system than any American "PD". I'm glad that they've chosen to distance this title from its True Crime origins. I liked the True Crime series (I'm probably one of the few people who actually preferred TC: New York despite it being unbearably glitchy) but they couldn't decide whether they wanted to be taken seriously or if they were supposed to be zany and wacky. They tried to capture the grandiose, snarky machismo of 80's movie cops and never really succeeded at it. Nick Kang and Marcus Reed really just came off as unlikable sociopaths regardless of which "path" their character took.
So far it seems like the plot of Sleeping Dogs has a much more stable, serious tone without being as pointlessly bleak as Grand Theft Auto IV.

Sweet, I can get behind this amount of variety in a badass sandbox game in Honk Kong, based on HK cinema!
