Destructoid is gaming news, community, videos, and sometimes love. Take the tour or jump in with Facebook:

Warning: this video is not for the squeamish.

As ridiculous as it might seem, what you're looking at is a gigantic crane picking up an Asteroids arcade cabinet and tossing it into an industrial-sized  shredder. The machine (which was donated to SSI Shredding Systems) was not in working order, but that doesn't make this any more bearable to watch.

I mean, come on -- you don't see us throwing dead bodies that "no longer work" into a shredder, do you? I'm pretty sure that happened in The Punisher game by Volition and yeah, it was pretty damned cool, but come on. Asteroids?

I'm appalled. I bet these SSI bastards eat puppies, too.

Those Bastards! I would put that in my house just for looks at least!

Why didn't they just fix it? What was so wrong with it that the only possible choice was to obliterate it completely?

Makes me sad, it does.

Oh my god, they killed Asteroids. You bastards!

Seriously though... I can't imagine the thing was beyond restoring or at the least like Cokeman said just to have for looks. Sad. =(

DAAAAMN!! How would a living person look if they fall inside that machine? The head would explode, the intestines would get stuck in the cilinder teeths, and in the conveyor a boody pulp with cloth and hair...

I bet the people who work with that machine everyday must have seen some accidents like that.

Please reference James Cagney as Cody Jarrett in White Heat as the Asteroids Machine. Edward G. Robinson as Johnny Rocco in Key Largo as the Shredder.

Cagney: "Look, Ma! Top of the world!"

The love interest should be a Ms. Pacman cocktail cabinet.

The cabinet for Asteroids alone is worth some $$$ .... I just died a little inside.
