OH SNAP! Xbox 360 Premium dropping in price shortly before E3 photo

A major retailer has told the Hollywood Reporter that the Premium Xbox 360 (20 GB) will be dropping in price to $299. The $50 price drop is set to take place right before E3 and will undercut the 40 GB PS3 price by $100.

In most cases, I really don’t like running Rumortoids, but the Hollywood Reporter did call the last Xbox 360 price drop just a couple of weeks before Microsoft made the price drop official in August of last year. Plus, there are also the ads from Kmart and RadioShack showing the Xbox 360 as $299, so it really looks like the price drop is going to happen.

Think this is going to help Microsoft push more Xbox 360s this holiday season? Will this finally force Nintendo to drop the Wii's price? How awesome is the header picture?

[Thanks, Zulu!]

Toneman: I'll let someone else grab that. Like I said, I don't like Rumortoids.

Dexter: Where'd you buy it at? Probably can get the price difference back (Costco, Target does that).

To avoid "fanboy" arguments, I'll just say this

20GB and 120GB is still a weird combination. The rumors of a 60GB hard drive replacing the 20GB seem likely.

How's the RRoD issue? I haven't heard much about it lately, but I'm suspecting it's due to sheer normalcy at this point. Until Microsoft stamps out that problem (and it looks like they won't), I'm not going to get a 360 until it's dirt-cheap.

This'll be great for replacing my 360 after my inevitable RROD. Gotta say I'm more interested in the possibility of a larger hard drive though.

It's finally starting to look like I'll be able to afford a 360, which is amazing, considering I work at Burger King!

Go, Microsoft! GO!

i agree. I will stay away from the 360 until the matter of the RRoD is solved for good without "visits to the doctor".

If the Wii drops the price, they will drop it to $199 and remove Wii Sports from the box (basically, the price won't drop).

Dammit... hope this happens this weekend. I'm gonna go to the states to exchange my 360 (drive died) and Best Buy gives you the money difference from when you bought it, so I'd get $100, enough for GTA IV and Lost Odyssey (if I add a little moniez).

It must happen this weekend.

Hey, Microsoft! Drop the 360 **ELITE** by $100 and you've got a sale as soon as I can get to the store!

Until then, f**k off! I'm not paying you $180 for a pathetic, 120 GB, proprietary hard drive when an 80 GB, 2.5" hard drive goes for $60 on NewEgg!

Now all they need to do is include wifi and free online and it'll be worth saving $100.

I'm really hoping for a $299 60GB unit. That's more within the realm of affordability, and while I need more than 20GB, the Elite is a little bit much, all around. 60GB would be perfect.

Hmn. I'm thinking I might partake in this cheaper 360, if it becomes a reality.

I won't get one for a while- with the cost of xbox live and the RROD I will stick with my PS3 which BTW on the recent wal-mart special was $299 after the $100 gift card)

i work at a gamestop in PA USA and the skew is in the entire gamestop store network. it is listed under the 02 department sku, which is used for all new systems, as a $299 Xbox 360.

but the weird thing is that it is followed by "(Refurb)" even though it is in the "new" systems department. Most of us working their believe its ex-broken consoles that got shipped to soft and had them repaired and now are reselling them on the cheap.

ill try to get a cell phone pic of it on my c-blog or something

any gamestop refurbed sku is listed as 909XXX so its def not just a cheaper one that we refurbed.
