Oh snap! Virtual Console games to get new Wii specific functionality? photo

Next week, underrated Nintendo 64 game Pokémon Snap will be coming to the Wii's Virtual Console in Japan. While this is not really news unto itself (unless you secretly adore the game like me), what is exciting is the fact that the game will come with some surprise Wii online functionality.

All the pictures taken in the addictive on-rails “shooter” will be able to be posted to your Wii message board and sent to any of your Address Book buddies. I don’t know any of my friends that are chomping at the bit to see a photo of Charmander hiding in a tree trunk, but at least the option is there, right? If anything, just the fact that Nintendo -- originally adamant about not wanting to change any of the Virtual Console games -- is willing to add extra features to these sometimes expensive downloads is very exciting.

Imagine the possibility of an online Goldeneye, a pointer-friendly Mario Paint, or a motion-controlled Uniracers. Little added touches to these older games would not only be completely welcome to fans, they would most likely raise their value exponentially. I know for a fact most people that are hesitant about purchasing these VC games either own them already or have no motivation to spend money on something without any new features.

What do you think? Could this potential new trend sway you to purchase more titles on the Virtual Console, or do you not care one way or the other? What retro games would you love to see get a fun Wii makeover?

Fuck yeah, Pokemon Snap was awesome! I'm pretty sure I'll just use this option to annoy my friends with retarded pictures, though.

I owned only four games for my Nintendo 64 when I owned it. This game was one of them. I loved this game.

Would be better with the wii remote for gameplay use.

Well, at least N64 games are often -decently- optimized for the European market. And I never played Pokemon Snap, so this one might be worth picking up.

Still boycotting all SNES, NES and Mega Drive games until they release a freakin' 60hz switch for the emulator, though. There's no excuse for still having to play inferior versions of the same games that the US market gets, while having to pay more money.

@JACK of No Trades

15 years, and you were playing Intellivision? I'm sorry, what alternate reality am I in where people were playing 1970's consoles in 1992? Nice bullshit you've got there, unless you want to try and convince me that you were idiotic enough to be playing Atari 2600's and Intellevisions when the Super Nintendo and Mega-Drive were ruling the streets, you idiot.

Oh boy, you were gaming in 1992, you're a real 'vet' maybe you played games with my son too, he should be about your age. Try talking gaming to someone who was actually -alive- when the Atari was out, and when Nintendo first got into the 'biz with the Nintendo back in 1985, were you still a zygote then?

Get over yourself, and stop trying to act like a gaming veteran when you don't even have a sense of when Consoles were even around, you poser.

Anyway, to get back on topic, learn to do simple wrist movements JACK, unless the arthritis from your imaginary old age has gotten to you.

Which is exactly what I ascertained, hence the question "were you a zygote then?". The zygote is the earliest stage of fertilization, which means that conception has taken place, but you're nothing more than a fused cell at that point. You were born in 1985, as I guessed, so around 1985 you would still be nothing more than a zygote.

Thanks for playing.

I heard they cleaned up the graphics of the original Paper Mario. I think that's nice of them - They don't just care about your money. Okay, they want the money, but they do something for it instead of hurling out the old sh*t again and carrying in the cash in a wheelbarrow.
