Oh no! God of War III almost didn't have a sex mini-game photo

There are three truths in life -- death, taxes, and a God of War sex mini-game.

But according to the game's director, Stig Asmussen, Kratos almost didn't get down with a little bump n' grind in his latest adventure on the PlayStation 3, God of War III.

"I was like, 'I'd rather not have it in there at all,'" Asmussen told UGO, explaining that there was an internal debate over whether or not to include one. He says he wasn't sure if there was a point in including it, despite its "popularity" in previous games, where it was include to show that Kratos was a "man's man" that gets what he wants. That point was obviously found for the third title; the final version does include a sex mini-game.

"It's not just you going in there, finding some corner and having sex with somebody. It's something that guides you through the story. You get information more than just a fluff moment," he explains.

If the sex is as epic as the game's first 30 minutes, gamers are in for a real treat. Read Chad's impressions of the game's opening sequence (spoiler: he really liked it), and check back next Monday, March 8 at 12 PM EST for my full review.

Maybe I'll rent this after all?

The best part about Chains of Olympus was tapping Circle and rubbing the Nub in time with the offscreen moans, after all. I'm sure it'll be no different this time around!

I never really cared about the sex minigame, though I suppose integrating it into the story more is an improvement.

What? Only ONE sex mini game? What a ghey wad. When there are more like a baker's dozen sex games let me know. Until then, "Kratos" = crippling impotence.

I'm way more concerned about whether the sea captain you repeatedly murder is back for a third go.

It's funny.

GTA got shit for including a sex mini game.

But GoW would get shit for not including a sex mini game.

What kind of world is this?

That's good. I was always surprised how little flack GoW got for having nudity AND sex mini games all during the most heated parts of the Hot Coffee scandal (no pun intended....seriously). Especially since they were completely there just to be there.

Not that I minded them anyway.

.....boobs.

Good thing they did, or I would have canceled my preorder and started a petition to boycott this game, just based on the single fact that they took out the traditional God of War sex mini games that the series is well known for.

That seems like the popular thing right now with video games.

This post reminds me I still need to buy this game too?! Damn, March is going to be an expensive month!

Lol. I still find it quite amazing that Sony have such a problem just putting the sex in the game with the bullshit. Come on, Sony, its a an R/18 rated game. If Heavy Rain, Dragon Age and Mass Effect can manage it, why on earth you are being so to prude about it is humourous. You can't expect to approach ancient greek mythology and ignore sex while accepting violence.

Oh yeah, they already done that.

Even in most sex scene on tv, there's no schlong penetration, which is clearly what they are scared of.

Sex for the sake of sex in this mythology universe, is in context, as ancient greeks were always up for some. Doing so in GoW 1 and 2 makes sense in this regard as sex is a good stress releaver (refuel/replenish energy). If Sony are trying to tie that into the story, I'm not so sure about that (I'd have to pay it), as it feels like they are ashamed of having it in the game.

Next on the news, Tecmo in voyeurism controversy. (Bizarre differing attitudes, indeed)

It's tradition at this point, not putting it in would have been like making Kratos a venture capatalist who tries to buy mount olympus from Zeus.

I bet they will cut out this content for Japan, because of "cultural differences".

I honestly didn't even know there was a sex mini-game in the first God of War. I just wanted to continue the damn action.

Frankly, the sex games in GoW have always had the thirteen year old design approach that the rest of the game shared. I don't think we would miss much either way. Let me know when we learn how to make mature content from a mature point of view.

Sure, the sex mini-games have always been stupid, but they're a GoW tradition, not to mention they're played mostly for laughs. I'm glad they left it in.
