Haven't the last few games been pretty well-received? I had no idea people were so sick of the series.
My dad's long lost half brother's daughter works for Disney and she told me that even Disney isn't this bad at milking their properties.

I agree with the names and the plot, but I can't hate on the gameplay (aside from Chain of memories') It's legitimately fun gameplay, and it makes me feel all powerful. Like the first time I controlled 2 keyblade roxas while fighting axel. I felt so awesome. :P

I agree wholeheartedly, and it hurts. Kingdom Hearts was the first series I really truly fell in love with and became obsessed with and then they started shitting on my chest. Constant flowing streams of diarrhea on my chest in the form of spin-offs and convoluted stories. I will still give Kingdom Hearts 3 a chance, but it will not make me skip work like Kingdom Hearts 2 made me skip school.
Oh well, brand new Disney worlds, great graphics and promising gameplay.

@darfreeze; they got too big. Its seen with companies everywhere. They grow, and the heart and soul is replaced by the well manicured suits, who's sole interest is profit and pleasing shareholders-no matter the cost. Big business is a cold,hard freight train. Even with att the AAA titles we have today, I feel the 9o's were the best times for games, none of these bullshit tactics, day 1 dlc, or any of the bullshit DRM-

I don't care about pompous names as long as the game is good. It's just too bad that the only good one was birth by sleep, and all of the ones that apper on nintendo systems are flat out rehashes that recycle the stages and music of the first game and add nothing to the overall canon. Seriously though, people really should consider birth by sleep to be the unofficial "kingdom hearts 3" it was just so good and adds a lot to the story, and kingdom hearts 3 just flat out won't be in stores for about a decade.

Did you even play the portable games? I don't get all the hate for it honestly. Birth by Sleep was just as good as KH1 and KH2, or better.
All the others are entirely optional, but they add little bits of story if you want to really delve into it.
I just have a feeling that this is really about nothing more than the titles for the games. Dream Drop Distance is really not that awful of a name. It's basically Kingdom Hearts 3D, which is a perfectly fine title. They just add another layer to it.

Regardless of the spin-offs and the names they have, I'm still looking forward to the continuation (and eventual completion) of the story. The mash-up (and what that means for gameplay and story) between FF characters and Disney characters/worlds still amuses and excites me (as well as thousands of other fans of this series).
I still have yet to play most of the spin-offs, just Chain of Memories so far, but what I did play of that was thoroughly enjoyable as a part of the whole.

Names are pretentious? They're certainly stupid and contrived, hardly pretentious though. The only handheld Kingdom Hearts game that 'needs' to be played is Birth By Sleep. Everything else is unnecessary filler and you can even get by without playing Birth By Sleep so I don't really get the outrage.
It's shocking how long it has been since the first game on ps2 (2002, almost a decade ago!). My interest for the series lived and died with the 1 and 2 on the ps2 but it's surprising just how popular these games still are with the kids. 2 kids of a family friend are REALLY into the series and they are 13 and 15. They discuss in incredible detail the stories and who is a heartless and what each organization member's real name is and on and on and on. I lost a lot of interest in the series after the unnecessary complications KH2 brought to the story but kids seem to love the "depth" the series has. Plus not much new has been brought to the table with the gba, ds, and psp games. They really recycle a lot of plot points and locations from a slightly different angle. It reminds me a lot of 90s anime in a way.
I really liked the Kingdom Hearts series, but I never played any of the spin-offs (except the one on GBA). So I always worried that I wouldn't be able to follow the story when KH3 comes out.

I've enjoyed every kingdom hearts to date and as long as they keep the game fun and interesting ill buy it.
all you people attempting to justify Square Enix's exploitation of a franchise (the main series has TWO games and yet there are SEVEN spin-offs? SERIOUSLY?) are what's wrong with gaming. seriously.

Yeah everytime they would announce a new KH, it would pique my interest until they would say 'handheld' and then all the excitement quickly evaporated. I own and play handhelds, but I loved the original on a console and always thought it was great console game material. Square makes money from software, they should shut up and just do what they do best, software! Software sounds funny if you say it alot XD
Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2 were good not great - every single KH game after those was terrible especially DS and PSP spinoffs. Birth by Sleep and 365/2(or whatever) are probably in my Top 10 worst games i've played this gen.
Never liked Kingdom Hearts, always thought the concept was dumb and the execution was mediocre.

I loved kingdom hearts back then. Completely fell in love with it back then. I do agree the spinoffs are kinda annoying (although I do think they did birth by sleep a little bit of justice). I still anticipate KH3's release regardless, but goddam knows when they'll do that because versus 13 isn't even here yet.
If there is anything I hate as much as Kingdom Hearts the game, it's the community of fanboys and fangirls that continue to support it. The series has gone almost nowhere, yet it has a crazy rabid fanbase, for whatever reason I'm not sure of... Maybe they should just skip the 3rd game, and just make it an anime, might as well be the same thing now...

Never been a fan of Kingdom Hearts but from the people I know that like the series, this kind of dry humping in the form of odd handheld releases discourages them from returning to the series.

Also it's ony seven if you count re coded and re chain of memories as separate spinoffs as opposed to just upgrades to older spinoffs. Considering that the Sony crowd may have lacked gbas and the American crowd lacked Japanese cell phones, I consider those ports a small favor.

People(haters) don't seem to get that Kingdom Hearts 2 didn't set the game up for a super sequel. And I don't believe you've even played the last few games Jim. Birth by Sleep is actually essential to the story and is KH 3 in a lot of ways.

I have to agree on Jim on this one... although I'm sure that everyone in the planet that liked the 3 KH that really matter (1, 2 and BbS) is going to dance with their pants on their heads.

I'm annoyed too, but I've enjoyed the handheld titles. And the reason why we aren't getting KHIII yet is because of FF Versus XIII. The handhelds are developed by different teams. I'd rather have KHIII be developed by the guys behind the first two.
Also, calling Birth by Sleep a spin-off is like calling Halo Reach a spin-off. It's just as important as the first two. The main reason why people hate it is because there's no roman numeral after the title.
