Official PS3 backward compatibility page up! photo

The official PlayStation 3 backward compatibility page is now up on the U.S. PlayStation website. Apparently, Sony doesn't want people to see the entire list of games that don't play properly on the PS3, so all this page has on it is a Search function which requires you to input the title of the game you're looking for.

However, CVG reports that there are about 200 games that don't function  correctly on the PS3 as of now.

One things I don't really get... this was a hardware solution, not software, correct? So that means there are basically little PSXs and PS2s inside the PS3, doesn't it? So why are there ANY games that don't work? I guess I don't understand the technology well enough...

Dex, the PS3 doesn't contain any hardware of the previous systems, outside of a disc drive that offers (some) compatibility compared to the drive in the PS2/PS1. The PS2 had some hardware pieces of the PS1 to supplement some software emulation components as well, but the PS3 does ALL it's emulation in software for both the PS2 and PS1, like the Xbox 360 does with Xbox titles. I think the Wii does GCN emulation similar to how the PS2 does, seeing Wii and GCN hardware are very similar.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the PS3 contain the Emotion Engine from the PS2 as well? Not sure about this, so I can't answer your question, Dex. Sorry.

200 GAMES! DAMN! thats a bunch more games than I figured wouldn't work....Hmm you'd think that the games that are old would be easy to accomodate with the cell processor and all....GUESS NOT!

@bleep -- have you tried playing old DOS games on your new computer? Its kinda like that

Besides 200 games aint too bad considering Sony is advertising it as every game works fine except these while xbox360 goes with the none of the game work except these

I was wondering and im too lazy for research but is there any way to connect old ps2 controllers into the ps3 without dishing out serious cash for some overpriced converter?

well I guess I can agree with the 'Xbox none except these' is worse than 'Sony's None of these'.....but if you have a newer computer you can still open the MS Dos prompt and open your old .exe game files. I think that there is a way to connect your old controllers...but it might involve soldering....lol

there are problems with most final fantasy games... you'd think sony would try to make their most popular old games work...

If your just being really cheap buy a $15 logitech usb controller. They do work. I plugged mine in the other day to see what would happen and to my surprise it worked perfect.
