Arc System Works might think it's cool to release BlazBlue: Continuum Shift -- the sequel to last year's Calamity Trigger -- in Japanese arcades, but we gaijin don't have that luxury anymore. In case Arc didn't notice, those went extinct about ten years ago.
Weekly Famitsu broke a story about a Continuum Shift console port months ago, but today's press release confirms a North American version. The game hits Japanese shelves in July, but mum's the word on the gaijin version.
Continuum Shift introduces three new characters -- Hazama, a street performer; Tsubaki, a knight; and Mu-12, who I don't know anything about -- and a handful of new levels as well as four new modes: Tutorial, Beginner, Challenge, and Legion.
Most of the modes seem pretty straightforward, but I have to admit that Legion mode, first introduced in the PlayStion Portable version of Calamity Trigger, comes right out of left field: "Defeat the enemy armies positioned at various locations on the map. The ultimate goal is to color the entire map with your color by defeating all the enemy hubs. Recruit enemy soldiers by defeating them!"
As if that explains anything.
I might be showing my ignorance here, but three new characters for a brand new sequel doesn't sound that compelling, especially since Super Street Fighter IV adds ten at a $40 price tag. But, hell, I'm just excited that Aksys, who's publishing the game, has even found a market for non-Capcom fighters in the West. I hope Continuum Shift doesn't cause brain rot, though.
Hit the gallery for character art and screenshots, and tell me what you think.
In short, I am a consumer whore.
Now, having two new characters who are guaranteed to not play like anyone else in the game (going by the standards set in the first game) seems alright with me. But that still doesn't make it worth another $60, even with all the rebalancing and bonus modes. If it were $40, I'd consider, but if it launches at $60, I'll end up waiting for the price to drop.
I think she's Nu-12.
I could be completely wrong though.
Spoilers: She's Noel!
Noel is Mu-12... The boss in BB:CT is Nu-13... in BB:CS I think there is a Lambda-11 who is just another prototype
Basically, all the names are a greek letter, plus the number of whatever position it is in the greek alphabet, so alpha-1, beta-2, etc.
I'm pretty sure Lambda-11 is just another prototype that Kokonoe basically reprogrammed...
found proof: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BlazBlue:_Continuum_Shift
and day 1 for me.
unless you mean nu-13=mu-12=lambda-11=saya
You're right, I got it backwards in my head. Don't post when Tired folks!
If so, 60 bucks ain't bad for a toy version of my waifu.
That alone secures my purchase.
[I have no idea where the fuck that came from. Sorry guys :( ]
Maybe someday we can finally get past that. I still blame MvC2 for starting it.
anyway uh yea. fighters are more on character changes than characters if anything.
YEEEEEEEEEES
So yes, I am very excited for CS. I too hope it'll be less than $60 though. But since Aksys doesn't have access to Capcom's infinite fighting-game fanbase, I doubt it.
More of a good thing, IMO. Balance out the SF4 I've been playing.
Can't wait to see how is going to be the Limited Edition of this game, since the one from SSFIV is a huge disappointment.
Anyway, GET HYPE!! More fighting games more nights without sleeping. yay~
Just import it. I bought my version of CT in Japan and even the full localization was already on the disk. If it wasn't for the achievements still being in Japanese, I wouldn't even haven been able to tell that it's a foreign game.
Anyone whos played the different GGs knows that characters can differ immensely from iteration to iteration. Same goes for the new BB, every character has new moves and plays differently then they did before.
Capcom strives for keeping old characters familar in SF4 where as the BB crew likes mixing it up. Making you relearn an old character but they do it in a way that feels natural to anyone who has a backgroud with the character.
