ODST's Firefight may be included in Halo: Reach photo

Firefight, Bungie’s answer to Horde -- a mode in Gears of War 2 that pits four players against waves and waves of AI-controlled Locusts -- could make its from Halo: ODST to Halo: Reach. Speaking to Eurogamer, Bungie’s Brian Jarrad revealed that if fans enjoyed Firefight enough, the studio may consider including the cooperative mode in Halo: Reach.

"I can't talk too much about Reach specifics,” Jarrard said, “but hopefully the game mode's going to be received as well we think it will be, and people are going to enjoy it. I don't think we've ever been known to really take things away from each successive release, so I think it's safe to say that if Firefight gets a lot of traction and people love it, it probably has a good future home in our next title as well.”

Our resident Halo enthusiast and community manager got a good taste of Firefight at E3 this year. Check out his thoughts if you’re curious about what Bungie is planning to bring to the multiplayer table on September 22nd.

It wouldn't make much sense for them to exclude it now would it?

I broke down and decided I'm gonna go pre order this tomorrow. For some reason, I never buy into the Halo hype, but weeks before I always find myself placing a pre order because I can't pass up more Halo.

Played it a few times at PAX and it only reinforces my will to buy this.

It wouldn't make much sense to get rid of a series that does nothing but rehash gameplay and throw random parts of GoW in there now would it?

So is it safe to say Reach will be another FPS then?
I predict an MMO-type of game!

So, Reach confirmed for ANOTHER FPS.

On that note, I would bloody love a Warthog racing game. Halo 1 physics, of course.

Well, it wouldn't make sense to exclude it, as Xzyliac has already said. I'm just curious to find out how they will keep the series fresh by the time Reach comes around. Each entry has introduced something new, so I want to find out what Reach will bring.

Can't wait to try Firefight mode.

Slightly unrelated but I was wondering if Downloading ODST to my Hard Drive would decrease load times rather than increase them. I know that halo 3 didn't work well with downloading to the hard drive but that released before the NXE. This time around I don't know if they built the game with the NXE in mind or not. Does anyone Know the answer to that Question?

I always thought Reach looked like an MMO too, just from the concept art/logo thing for it on Bungie's website. That's interesting though, I wasn't expecting another FPS. I kind of imagine it to be Team Fortress 2-esque.

I've pre-ordered my special edition with the controller from Gamestop, and already paid it off. =D Two weeks until the midnight release party!!

@ Flabzilla : Take your Halo hate somewhere else. You have your opinion, and that's awesome that you like Killzone 2, but seriously. We don't care if you don't like Halo, you don't have to spend money on it. We don't take kindly to trolling around this website, so please try to clean your act up and speak intelligently next time.

It may be in Halo Reach? They should just change this to IT WILL BE in Halo Reach.

We all know Firefight Mode is going to be popular and I will bet money they release map packs just for it.

Consdering the Popularity of Hoard mode and Nazi Zombies this is guaranteed to be a hit unless it's bugged out the ass. But from what video I have seen. Looks like the Firefight mode is going to be some great shit.

Not just another FPS, but basically another Halo 3 expansion/sequel. It's being hyped as a refresher to the Halo series, and a treader of new grounds but it's not going to be anymore a breath of fresh air than ODST will be. The amazing new never before seen mechanic in ODST is removing the Chief. Basically, your health is lower and you have a new visor. It's still the exact same game. Reach will be the same. Just throw in some new, cheesy and done-before mechanic, surround it with Halo technobabble, and you have yourself Reach.

I am so fucking excited. Not. There is so much potential in the Halo Universe and the franchise is past-due for a true overhaul - Which for me, basically means pretending Halo 1 - 3, ODST, and Wars never existed and just create a whole new game, FPS or not, using the Halo universe. I'm sick of seeing the developers obligate themselves to keep similar mechanics in the newer games because that's what sold so well. I think Bungie is on safeground for trying out something new. Halo is turning out to be the First person shooter guitar hero whore-out of the decade.

This looks a lot better then Halo 3. As I've said before, I never gave two craps about Master Chief (I thought the universe was awesome but Chief's story was rather bland), so seeing it from an actual human (with humanlike qualities like, say, non-invulnerability unlike our green-armored friend) should bump my interest up considerably.
I won't be getting it on release date, but probably will in the near future. Firefight sounds too fun to pass up. I'm still regularly playing Horde on Gears 2.

I really hope Reach takes them away from the FPS genre. I love Halo, I really do, but even ODST is looking a little worn, and this is coming from someone who has read all the books and loves the universe.

I think it would make a fair amount of sense for Reach to be squad based with heavy team reliance based on what I know about the planet's mythos. I would like to see nothing more.

You're so blinded by any kind of news of Halo that couldn't realize the typing error in the article: horde mode in Gears teams five players together. Just for the record. I share point by point the opinion of Caffeine Knight: Halo is obsolete (no hate, just what I think)

im sorry ok i admit i am slightly a ps3 fanboy that loves games over all but wants to see microsoft fail because i hate how greedy and evil they are but BUNGIE is a hugely amazing team they bring it every time with new thing BUT the halo shit is milked its over dont and bungie has to move on to new things maybe something on playstation taking advantage of the ps3 hardware, and for all those who say killzone is better then halo go suck a fat one because halo story sucked but was 1000x better then what ever the fuck killzones was hahah killzone has no offline multiplayer and its online is amazing but has a class system with different classes having different weapons and skills while halo is not class based and is on a "find the weapon that makes you good "game play so they are different stop comparing them!

First off: Breathe.

Secondly: All corporations want your money. Do you really think Microsoft are more greedy than Sony or Nintendo? If so then congratulations; you're a tool of media oppression.

Thirdly: Halo is hardly the most over-milked franchise in the world, least of all the videogame world.

There have been four iterations of Halo games: Halo 1-3 and Halo Wars.

Now count out to me how many Final Fantasy, Street Fighter, Megaman, Bomberman, Tetris, Puzzle Bobble, Mario, Metal Gear, Dead or Alive, Sonic, Crash Bandicoot, Zelda, Metroid, Tomb Raider, Madden, FIFA, Need for Speed, Burnout, Gran Turismo and Dragon Quest titles there are, to name but a few franchises that far exceed the number of titles under the Halo banner.

Bungie should be applauded for having the guts to take the series in a different direction, when they could have simply released another Master Chief title.

Although I agree with you that it would be interesting to see what Bungie could develop next and whether or not they choose other formats, another Halo game is not the worst thing in the world to do. Bungie will finish with Halo when it chooses to, and we just have to trust that they don't pull a Lucas and dilute the current quality of the franchise with asinine sequels.

I was annoyed enough when it was confirmed Halo Reach is another FPS, I was hoping for it to be basically Star Wars Battlefront 3 but without the Star Wars and with more Halo.

I should get around to pre-ordering this...

@CaptainBus i have a grudge against microsoft that starts with how i got my first computer so me hating them is super bias hahah and my xbox live and over all xbox experience, and i say halo is milked due to the fact its sorta being microsofts one trick pony, the story has been lacking to, but i guess you made me realize im over reacting because mario is the same way for nintendo but yet they still integrate creativity to the franchise and halo to me has been relied on too much its still an fps like 1-3 and with the same boring story when games like ratchet and clank has i think 6 titles and still stays fresh but maybe im really bias toward the situation, also most milked franchise hands down guitar hero :p, not saying odst will be bad i actually was looking forward to it. it looks like what halo 3 should have been but with the announcement of reach im skeptical if this is going anywhere new soon. thanks for the respectable reply i appreciate it.

I hope to god you're being sarcastic.

Oh and BTW the Master Chief wordplay won't really piss off the actual fans of the series. Any Halo lover that isnt a frat boy or a 12 year old pre-pubescent idiot that jacks it to Cortana refers to him as John or 117, not his rank.

Mention Halo, and the trolls come out of the fuckin' woodwork of the webbernets.

Which is worse, commenting on a story that may have relevance to a particular sect of gamers and their corresponding tastes, or "calling somebody out" over their particular choice of game by telling them they have no life?

@SexualChocolate
'Tis better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool, rather than open it and remove all doubt. You, sir, are one of the worst offenders here.
