Firefight, Bungie’s answer to Horde -- a mode in Gears of War 2 that pits four players against waves and waves of AI-controlled Locusts -- could make its from Halo: ODST to Halo: Reach. Speaking to Eurogamer, Bungie’s Brian Jarrad revealed that if fans enjoyed Firefight enough, the studio may consider including the cooperative mode in Halo: Reach.
"I can't talk too much about Reach specifics,” Jarrard said, “but hopefully the game mode's going to be received as well we think it will be, and people are going to enjoy it. I don't think we've ever been known to really take things away from each successive release, so I think it's safe to say that if Firefight gets a lot of traction and people love it, it probably has a good future home in our next title as well.”
Our resident Halo enthusiast and community manager got a good taste of Firefight at E3 this year. Check out his thoughts if you’re curious about what Bungie is planning to bring to the multiplayer table on September 22nd.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I predict an MMO-type of game!
On that note, I would bloody love a Warthog racing game. Halo 1 physics, of course.
Can't wait to try Firefight mode.

I've pre-ordered my special edition with the controller from Gamestop, and already paid it off. =D Two weeks until the midnight release party!!
@ Flabzilla : Take your Halo hate somewhere else. You have your opinion, and that's awesome that you like Killzone 2, but seriously. We don't care if you don't like Halo, you don't have to spend money on it. We don't take kindly to trolling around this website, so please try to clean your act up and speak intelligently next time.
We all know Firefight Mode is going to be popular and I will bet money they release map packs just for it.
Consdering the Popularity of Hoard mode and Nazi Zombies this is guaranteed to be a hit unless it's bugged out the ass. But from what video I have seen. Looks like the Firefight mode is going to be some great shit.
I am so fucking excited. Not. There is so much potential in the Halo Universe and the franchise is past-due for a true overhaul - Which for me, basically means pretending Halo 1 - 3, ODST, and Wars never existed and just create a whole new game, FPS or not, using the Halo universe. I'm sick of seeing the developers obligate themselves to keep similar mechanics in the newer games because that's what sold so well. I think Bungie is on safeground for trying out something new. Halo is turning out to be the First person shooter guitar hero whore-out of the decade.
I won't be getting it on release date, but probably will in the near future. Firefight sounds too fun to pass up. I'm still regularly playing Horde on Gears 2.
I think it would make a fair amount of sense for Reach to be squad based with heavy team reliance based on what I know about the planet's mythos. I would like to see nothing more.
First off: Breathe.
Secondly: All corporations want your money. Do you really think Microsoft are more greedy than Sony or Nintendo? If so then congratulations; you're a tool of media oppression.
Thirdly: Halo is hardly the most over-milked franchise in the world, least of all the videogame world.
There have been four iterations of Halo games: Halo 1-3 and Halo Wars.
Now count out to me how many Final Fantasy, Street Fighter, Megaman, Bomberman, Tetris, Puzzle Bobble, Mario, Metal Gear, Dead or Alive, Sonic, Crash Bandicoot, Zelda, Metroid, Tomb Raider, Madden, FIFA, Need for Speed, Burnout, Gran Turismo and Dragon Quest titles there are, to name but a few franchises that far exceed the number of titles under the Halo banner.
Bungie should be applauded for having the guts to take the series in a different direction, when they could have simply released another Master Chief title.
Although I agree with you that it would be interesting to see what Bungie could develop next and whether or not they choose other formats, another Halo game is not the worst thing in the world to do. Bungie will finish with Halo when it chooses to, and we just have to trust that they don't pull a Lucas and dilute the current quality of the franchise with asinine sequels.
I should get around to pre-ordering this...
Seriously guys, go fap fap fap to some masterchump porn or something.
I hope to god you're being sarcastic.
Oh and BTW the Master Chief wordplay won't really piss off the actual fans of the series. Any Halo lover that isnt a frat boy or a 12 year old pre-pubescent idiot that jacks it to Cortana refers to him as John or 117, not his rank.
Mention Halo, and the trolls come out of the fuckin' woodwork of the webbernets.
Which is worse, commenting on a story that may have relevance to a particular sect of gamers and their corresponding tastes, or "calling somebody out" over their particular choice of game by telling them they have no life?
@SexualChocolate
'Tis better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool, rather than open it and remove all doubt. You, sir, are one of the worst offenders here. Do us all a favor: if you like drinking the Kool-Aid, then that's fine, just so long as you don't force a glass of it down anybody else's throat. You come off as a fanboy doucheflap.
Did you miss me?
You're funny to laugh at, like a cat who gets angry when it hears another cat on a TV, so in that sense I missed you.
