Oddworld series coming to the PSN and Steam photo

Bitmob did a interview with Lorne Lanning, the father of the Oddworld franchise, where he revealed some exciting stuff for Oddworld fans. Numerous things were discussed in the interview, but the most interesting bit of news is that the Oddworld franchise will be hitting the PlayStation Network and Steam soon.

First up, Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee and Oddworld: Abe’s Exoddus are getting re-released on to the PSN. Lorne actually just signed the contract this past week to get these games on the network and we can expect them pretty soon.

Steam, and some other digital distribution sources, will also get the first two games as well as Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee and Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath. The four pack, called The Oddbox, will be out this Winter.

It’s great to see the return of these classic games, but what about a new Oddworld game? We’re going to have to just keep on hoping as Lorne puts it:

“Regarding new material, we hope to have an announcement soon, but I’ve been saying that for awhile now so I’ll just shut up and hope for the best.”

Just keep on hoping, kiddos.

I'm suddenly reminded of the last Oddworld game that was unfortunately canceled (and who's name I forget).
Thanks Destructoid! Now I'm going to be kinda happy and kinda sad all day!

Damn, no XBLA, although that's understandable (They were old PS games). I would love to try out the Oddbox though, as the graphics wouldn't be too taxing on my PC.

Awesome. Just awesome. This was something I've been hoping for because I wanted to play Abe's Odyssey again so bad!

I was playing one of the demos on Steam, classic hilarious games which I always sucked at.

I've always wanted to play Stranger's Wrath but I never owned the original Xbox so the fact that it's showing up on PC for the first time makes me quite happy.

@GWT It was either Hand Of Odd or The Brutal Balad of Fangus Klot.

I am glad to see sony doing this, the Abe games play like a dream on a PSP with P.O.P.S :D

Personally i think the downloadable platform would great for another 2D style Oddworld game. I felt that the 3D iterations lacked a certain something from the first two.

They also cranked out some of the most beautiful game-related desktops I've ever seen. I need to dig them out of the Internet again and modify 'em for my iPhone.

So... they release the pack on sale last week on Steam AND THEN announce there will be a new one? Am I the only one who sees this a douchy move? :|

Valve probably did it in anticipation of it.

The original games would be perfect for PSP.

As above, the first two have been on Steam since august, and they've been available from gog.com for $6 each for the best part of the year, too.

When I owned an Xbox for less than 24 hours last year (long story), my friend and I played the hell out of Stranger's Wrath- so long as the controls are done right, you're in for one heckuva good game.

More people need to put out news like that, rather than raising false expectations. Can't fault him for honesty.

Also, I'd given up hope that the 3D Oddworld games would make it to PC, since there's been silence on that front for a while. I'm quite excited -- I wonder if they'll be straight ports or if the graphics will be polished up a bit.

Stranger's Warth was really good but I had to gripes about it, it was short and you loss all your upgrades midway through the game. So there wasn't much of a point into collecting stuff or keeping baddies alive for a higher reward when you're going to lose everything anyway.

So I wonder if these will be HD remakes or just PSOne releases. I'll take it either way, but if it's a PSOne release, I think I'll play it on my PSP. Oddworld at 52 inches would be just awful.

The only one I haven't really played is Stranger's Wrath even though I bought it for Xbox. My brother owned the xbox but I rarely played it despite buying this game lol Then I got a 360 only to learn that SW is the only one that's not backward's compatible. Thanks, Oddworld.

But this is still good news! More incentive for me to get a Steam account, I guess.
