Oddworld invades PSN this Thursday! photo

What? YES! The gorgeous Oddworld: Abe's Oddysey and Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus are finally coming to the PlayStation Store's PSOne Classics section where they belong, and they're hitting the PSN this Thursday! Series creator Lorne Lanning spread the word himself on the PlayStation Blog, revealing a little background info about the games as he did.

"Gaming seemed such a blank slate of possibilities back then," recalls Lorne. "It was an early super-cool medium with which we could start telling stories of our own. We wanted characters living through stories that might inspire people while still enabling them many hours of challenge and entertainment. We wanted to integrate the best of our previous trade from the visual effects field to delve deeper into the storytelling potential with this exciting, rapidly evolving interactive medium.

"We started with Abe, the little chump trapped by the dark side of globalization who would need to find his way (and his soul) through a vast landscape of relentless hazards. He was to be the lovable hero trying to survive heavily armed idiots and hungry critters of the carnivorous kind.

"He was designed to cause as many laughs as he would accomplishments, and we wanted him to be remembered."

I have not forgotten him, and nor have a great deal many other gamers. The games will be available for $9.99, which I find a bit cheeky, but these games were so amazing and beautiful that I'm willing to overlook the hype-tax just this once. How about you? Anybody planning to pick up these lovelies? Let us know.

Hey now, what about Stranger's Wrath? And what happened to Odd's hand? I thought he only has 3 fingers, why's he got 4 fingers in that header image?

I'd guess Stranger's Wrath being an Xbox exclusive might have something to do with it not being included!

And yeah, there is some finger fiddling going on here...

Ok disregard that, Stranger's Wraith is going to be on both Steam and the PSN half way through Q4. Unless Wikipedia lies.

And apologies for the triple-whammy.

I picked up Oddworld 1&2 on Steam a while back because it was supposed to be fucking amazing, and I ended up hating it.

Yea I'll be buying this when I get some much needed time off. Got a lot of games on my plate atm though, and I still need to pick up Batman!

Why should I buy the game again on PSN if I could buy both games for $9.99 on Steam? If this was the same deal where I get 2 for $9.99, then I'd probably get the PSN version.

I would prefer the PSN version simply because I played them on PSone, nostalgia!

I recently wanted to buy these games in tangible form, but now - after I will get PS3 - I will get the digital version because of the lowest price, I guess.

Jiiiimm! I signed up just to ask xD

You don't know if this is hitting the UK PSN as well do you?

My god I NEED to play these games. I missed out on them during the PSone games because at the time, they freaked me out xD (mind you at 7 most things are scary :p)

Thanks dude!

I really dislike playing 4:3 games at HD res. As good as some of the classics are, this basically stops me getting any of them.

I never did beat Abe's Oddysee, I should try to...

Definitely going to get these when (if) they hit the PSN in Europe.

I remember going to oddworld studios near my hometown, and having to sign a disclaimer saying I wouldn't reveal anything they were making. It was Stranger's Wrath, and I remember saying to them "Huh, a FPS? That's new for you guys," and then Lorne Lanning told me to STFU.
I also asked him why he switched to Xbox when it seemed the most risky system of that generation (remember this was right after the Xbox released). He pretty much told me to STFU again.
Needless to say it turned me off a bit, though they did give me a cool hat.

WTF has changed that much that they can't still do/feel that? Team ICO doesn't appear to have this problem. Sounds more like he needs to get his head out of marketing/QA and go back to his roots... But then, some people believe that if they can't see/experience it, it no longer/doesn't exist.

Also, using slashes is cool/lame.

I just got Abe's Odysee through goozex, it took one day to find a match at 200 points, so those prices are dumb.

@snoogans 200 points on goozex is $10 if you pay for the points. So you 'paid' 1 cent more for a second hand copy.

...which is in a disc and a box, which could become a collectors item given enough years. Plus, Goozex is "traded" money, so yeah its equivalent might be $10, or it might be a copy of Sega Superstar Tennis. So...

Now when Sony fixes their upscaling feature on their PSN PSone titles so that it doesn't make the imagine thinner than usual (this happens with smoothing on with HDTVs) I will buy this and more PSone titles from PSN. Until then, I will never buy another PSone title unless it's super rare like Suikoden.

Abe 1 was an incredible experience, but at the same time frustrating for it's die-and-try-again play with invisible checkpoints. Abe 2 learned from that and allowed checkpoints wherever you felt like it, and just as beautiful and fun to play. I still own all my games, so I'll just pop in the disc.
