Wow, the only thing you liked about Chrono Trigger was the graphics? You're a fucking retard. CT's graphics look terrible on an HDTV television, anyway. Sure, with FILTERS you can make CT look good in ZSNES...but that doesn't count.
Anyway, I loved Fallout AND Chrono Trigger, and Obsidian's only had one fuck-up so far, which had mostly to do with Sega. See what Sega did to the PS3 version of Bayonnetta if you don't believe me.
This reminds me of Double Helix's Silent Hill. No matter what, it's an American developer sooooooo...
People have been slamming anyone that's a fan of the original as only liking nostalgia. It's a completely ridiculous claim considering that the game holds up far better than Fallout 1 which was released 4 years later. So that ends the nostalgia line of attack. In fact, most of the Obsidian fans are the nostalgic and irrational ones.
"Anyway, I loved Fallout AND Chrono Trigger, and Obsidian's only had one fuck-up so far"
Obsidian has had more than one fuck-up. And I don't blame Sega. They were the ones that were going to lose money on a mediocre RPG that they were funding, so they knew that and decided to cut their losses. Sega knows a good RPG when they see one. Just look at Valkyria Chronicles. Ironically, that's the only game that made me think of Chrono Trigger's level of quality, and it's a Sega game.
I'm not going to open that can of worms again on this site. Suffice to say, it's biased bullshit to claim that FFXIII wasn't a great game. If it was released by Atlus as a new IP, you would have loved it I'm sure.
It's quite funny to think people could cry nostalgia on a game that holds up better than any other game more than 5 years old.
Chrono Trigger was really good, and it had almost a dozen endings... it was wrapped up really well, I thought.
I'd rather Square's "Dream Team" consisting of the guy from FF and the two dudes from Dragon Quest got together again to make another badass game... I mean, they're basically part of the same company now, couldn't be that hard.
@Bigmoose85 -
You seem kind of on edge, so know that I'm not looking for verbal spew here, but why exactly would you like another entry into the series?
"I'm not going to open that can of worms again on this site. Suffice to say, it's biased bullshit to claim that FFXIII wasn't a great game. If it was released by Atlus as a new IP, you would have loved it I'm sure."
The only Atlus franchise that has impressed me is the Persona series. Could care less about anything else. FFXIII wasn't a bad game...but Alpha Protocol was only marginally more of a letdown. AP's a 6/10 where FFXIII's more 7ish out of ten. FFXIII was the the 2nd to worst game in the series, right behind FFV, which really sucked.
It's biased bullshit that you don't think Fallout's held up very well. I didn't start playing it until 2007 and I thought it was one of the best experiences I've ever had. NWN2 was great too. Didn't like KOTOR2 though (it wasn't a bad game either).
All of these claims about Obsidian making buggy games is bullshit too. It's just retards who don't know how to operate an OS (people who have viruses, faulty drivers, spyware, etc. and confuse those things with 'bugs').
"the "Dream Team", consisting of Hironobu Sakaguchi, creator of the Final Fantasy series, and Yuuji Horii and Akira Toriyama—two freelance designers known for their work on Enix's Dragon Quest series. Kazuhiko Aoki produced the game.[3] Masato Kato wrote most of the plot, while composer Yasunori Mitsuda scored most of the game before falling ill and deferring remaining tracks to Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu."
Hironobu Sakaguchi - He was one of the top people on FFI - FFIX. He's had a few sub-par games, but Lost Odyssey was amazing, and The Last Story looks great so far.
Nobuo Uematsu - Do I need to say more? He's still a legend.
Masato Kato - This guy is less known, but has a long list of impressive games on his resume, including Ninja Gaiden I-III, FFVII, FFXI, and he was the director of Chrono Cross later on.
Kazuhiko Aoki - Xenogears, Xenosaga, Chrono Cross, FFV, Soma Bringer, Xenoblade
Yuuji Horii - Creator of Dragon Quest, one of the most popular games of all time in Japan.
Akira Toriyama - Creator of one of the most popular cartoons in the world, and long time character designer and monster designer for Dragon Quest, that other super popular thing.
That said, giving this a little more thought, I'd like to see Obsidian's take on a JRPG style game. You know. Heavily JRPG, with manga style designs and such.

On one hand, I'd love to see how they portray the events and people of Chrono Trigger, but I also feel that one DS remake and a confusingly pseudo-philosophical sequel is enough and they should just leave well enough alone. :/
"Valkyria Chronicles Chronicles was doo doo"
!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Shut your whore mouth.
I was content to sit and let you carry on like an idiot, because I don't think most people who have been commenting have an issue with the principle of another Chrono Trigger sequel, just the idea of Square handing over the reins of a sacred IP to a tier 4 studio that can't even produce a decent game when its their own flagship IP, not to mention their pathetic history of handling others.
But it must be said. You have shit for brains if hated Valkeryia Chronicles.
That game is a gem. I can understand if it wasn't someone's thing, what with its clever mingling of turn based strategy, action, and RPG mechanics; the beautiful art style with the hand drawn filter; the story that wasn't half bad, especially considering the sludge that passes for stories in strategy games.
But hate? Not possible. You are the biggest philistine I've seen on this site in quite some time.
I've yet to not like a game by Obsidian or most of their developers. Anyone who dogs Obsidian doesn't know what the fuck they are talking about.
"OH JIM GAVE ALPHA PROTOCOL A -999.5 SO EVERY OBSIDIAN GAME MUST BE TERRIBLE"
Fuck off
Oh well not my problem if 50,000 people hate it, if they're gonna make it, they're gonna make it.
It's possible to acknowledge that something has quality, even you don't like it. I hate Halo games, but I know they are solid first person shooters. I don't really like Gran Tourismo, but I wouldn't besmirch its quality as a racer for a second.
It just takes a critical eye and higher level thinking. Something you've more than shown you lack, philistine.
OHSNAPSON!
But seriously, let them do it. If Squeenix isn't going to bother, and if their idea of a reasonable sequel to *Chrono* Trigger was Chrono Cross, then I say let someone else run wild. They might do something actually interesting with the time travel aspect in the RPG setting.
Chrono Trigger Remake/upgrade/whatever: no please, this game is fine as it is
Chrono Cross, same deal, leave it alone, it's fine.
Now, what I WOULD like to see is a commercial release of Radical Dreamers in any way shape or form. Be it the fan-make some folks did a while ago, some release of the text based version or, heaven forbid, a full blown modern adaptation made by Obsidian.
You listening Square Enix and Obsidian? Radical Dreamers is a thing I'd pay money for!
Even by Obsidian's buggy-ass standards, Alpha Protocol was a total fucking mess. But the story itself was good, and the sheer amount of reactivity to one's choices the game displayed was nothing short of astounding. It was a busted game in many ways (I still have nightmares about the Brayko fight), but the heart of a reasonably strong PC RPG beat underneath its breast. More importantly, AP's reactivity would be a good template for a modern CT to follow, and it'd be nice to play a modern JRPG with dialogue that American voice actors can say with a straight face. FFXIII's biggest problem is that the script is composed of Final Fantasy dialogue, meaning it works in text and doesn't when actually said out loud.
Thank god we have the art police here to tell me what is and isn't art because I surely can't think for myself.
Unless the world went strange on me all of a sudden, doo doo is shit, son.
It doesn't get much worse than that for adjectives, outside of hyperbole. You think the game was shit, but claim you didn't hate it...
Are you a masochist by chance? Its either that or I need to slap your English teacher.
"like i said if i hated the game i would have said far worse then its just shit (doo doo)"
That doesn't make a lick of sense.
And I do disagree with whiny fans. It was a good game, but it's not GODLY, and Christ, SquareEnix can do whatever the hell they want with their own IPs. I'm fed up of people hailing the sanctity of franchises. There is none.
But then again, Obsidian could very easily f*** it up.
Thats an usual distinction to make to a casual passerby, using synonyms for distinct degrees of dislike and it might not convey your thoughts as clearly as you'd like. I guess that's one you make at your own peril.
Regardless, at least you don't hate VC. There's a special place in hell for them.
Side note: when I contemplate the shoddy aspects and the brilliance of both the WRPG's and the JRPG's its exciting that usually where one falls short the other is doing it right. Here's hoping for the best of the both worlds and not the opposite.
Neverwinter Nights 2
Knights of the Old Republic 2
All disappointments.
Then they made Alpha Protocol. Yeeeeaahh. Not so good.
So what good have they done? Fallout 1 + 2? Sort of? Obsidian may have some former developers of these titles, but it is a different time now with different hardware, Obsidian are incompetent. Lets hope New Vegas won't be fucked up by them, there is at least some hope.
In your biased opinion maybe. KOTOR 2 and NWN2 may have not won GOTY awards, but they were critically-acclaimed titles.
I personally felt that NWN2 was superior to the original. On KOTOR2, I feel differently, but it was far from being a bad game.
In fact, KOTOR2 surpassed the ratings of FFXIII on Metacritic. Or are you one of those individuals who believes that only the uneducated, illiterate opinions of the masses should matter?
"Knights of the Old Republic 2"
Missing content due to being rushed aside, KOTOR 2 was a good game.
I think you can objectively criticize a game (like most critics do), so I don't think it' s entirely fruitless.
Objectively, KOTOR2 and NWN2 accomplish pretty much everything they were designed to do; objectively, they are great games and garnered reviews which reflected that. Subjectively, you may not enjoy the game (because you're not into the genre or narrative or whatever), which is sensible, but acting like it's a bad game just because it's not by the original developer, is just silly.
99% of the people who think KOTOR2 and NWN2 are bad games think that because they're not by the original developer, or because they became bored with the style of those games and mistook their extreme-familiarity with the existing elements of those games as distaste, relying on their own nostalgia to extract pleasure from the originals.
cause it's clear Squeenix is too busy milking the FF series to being garbage as of late.
