I don't need to hear back from you on this, though, because it's pretty clear from this last post that you have major reading comprehension issues.
are you being sarcastic?
a male cant write about a male being objectified?
thats like saying only women can write about women characters
Not sure if you are serious or not
Maybe that's true of the society at large, but I don't think it's true of media and arts, hell, I'd even say it's sometimes more advanced than America in those aspects. I mean, compare Ghibli to Disney, for example.
Also, taking the crappy girlfriend as a commentary on either gender seems out of place since both are equally capable of being selfish and dismissing someone's feelings.
themes of the writing. It wasnt a complaint in any way as far as I can tell.
and steve - dumbest post i've seen since rusks.
You're saying victim blaming itself isn't prevalent enough? Sorry to burst your bubble, but Western/first-world culture puts a HEAVY emphasis on teaching women how NOT to get raped rather than teaching people NOT to rape. Rape is still one of the hardest crimes to prosecute, and one of the most under-reported. Victim blaming is a MASSIVE problem.
"major reading comprehension issues"?
Oh how cute. Why is it every time a girl tries to add to the discussion on sites like these they get hate messages like that? You're just ignorant, and you know it. The internet is not for you. Go outside. Make friends. No wait, don't.
I think "victim blaming" is pretty widespread, and it's not really exclusive to rape. Lots of people don't like to think that bad things like that can just happen, so they make excuses in their mind saying how they had it coming, and similar.
You were SERIOUS?
Lollipop Chainsaw is one of those games that has a pants-on-head retarded story. Whether or not this much thought was put behind it is an interesting theory, but I doubt it myself. To me, it's simply an exploitation video game when you look at some of the names that are attached to the project.
Still, though. You can very well interpret it like this either way, because it's all still there. I can see it.
I'm not saying Jim can't write the article, he can do that if he wants, he has the right. What I'm saying is that the idea of "male objectification" and any idea of misandry in a videogames is just simply retarded. I wouldn't be surprised if 99.999999999999% of writers in the game industry were males. The only one I can think of is Jennifer Hepler, AND SHE HAS BEEN ATTACKED BY MISOGYNISTS. I seriously don't even know why I play games anymore.
And I'm not seeing where my message is particularly hateful, either; it's an admonition for you to reread the article. Seriously, reread it. It's not making any claim that misandry is some widespread phenomenon, or that it even exists in this game. But don't worry about it, stay reactionary.
that comment has passive-aggressive written all over it. Stop being condescending, your only making yourself look like an idiot. I read the article. I know what I read. And I disagree strongly, My question now is, DID YOU READ IT?
Protagonists are almost always physically attractive, regardless of sex, unless it's an Oddeorld game.
Maybe the entire reason for Juliet being scantily clad is so that horny gamers will buy the game and then have to witness how objectification can hurt someone.
I wouldn't put it past Suda.
Male characters appealing to women? Oh so you probably think it's ok to have the Hollywood-hot, big breasts, big ass, skimpy outfit, pretty faced female game character just because that's what men like? You think that's OK? take a look at this will you http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/566429325/tropes-vs-women-in-video-games . Characters like Lara Croft, Juliet Starling, Bayonetta girl, may not seem like a big deal to you, but as a female gamer it is hurtful to see these female sex object filling games. Don't even try to justify it by saying "HUR DUR MALE CHARACTERS ARE APPEALING TO FEMALES TOOO HUR DUR".
I can't even believe what I'm reading anymore. I donated to the tropes vs women kickstarter, did you?
In a way, I kind of have sympathy for the antoganist..
There is also a part were nick comments on how he doesn't like her unusual happy demeanor about whats going on and she just shrugs it off. Thanks Jim for posting this and keep up the good fight for more game like it.
Anyway, I liked the article. I haven't played the game, I don't have a console capable of playing it and even if I did, I can't get past the whole practically-nude-teenage-cheerleader-thing. But I still find it awesome that Jim was able to interpret the game in the way he did. Art is cool like that.
