Nyko unveils wireless Wii nunchuck photo

It was bound to happen sooner or later, and well, here you go. Nyko has revealed its new Wireless Nunchuck for the Wii, which they say will function just like the original, aside from the addition of what appears to be an "Off" button for the peripheral itself.

Using 2.4-GHz wireless, this newest threat to your television's safety connects to the Wiimote by way of a receiver module that plugs into the accessory port. The absence of cordage obviously suggests that you'll need some other means of powering this thing, which I'm sure will please the good people at Duracell as much as it does anyone else.

You'll get a better look at Nyko's new Nunchuck after its official public debut at CES next month, along with more information on pricing and how not to pelt your sister in the face with it. Until then, there's some ugly web site that has a few more pictures of it.

No, but now you can "accidentally" bean them in the forehead with it.

this is cool but kind of pointless, however I just got a wireless sensor bar which is clutch. I knock that shit over constantly

A wireless nunchuck is cool, I guess, but is it really necessary? I mean, it's not like that one foot cord was really in the way. And what if I ever really need to use the "nunchuck" as a -- well -- nunchuck?

The cord never has been an issue for me personally, and the fewer battery-sucking devices in my life the better.

My arms are very long. I am an unusually tall and skinny person and I hate sitting with my arms hunched together when I play wii. This is a God send for the few gamers in the world like me.

I actually never had an issue with the cord. It's long enough that it doesn't get in the way, and it keeps you from losing the fucking thing in the couch cushions.

I prefer it with a cord.

forget this. Where's the rechargeable batterpacks? I know the charge station is great and all but it's not even compatible with the Wii Zapper thanks to the bulging grip back piece and fatass batt recharger.

and I like strangling people with my cords thank you.

I wonder if you'll have to unplug the wireless adapter when a minigame calls for only the wiimote

AWESOMENESS!

I almost strangled myself with the corded version! I was playing Mario and got soooo damn excited and started whipping my arms around, next thing I know, Jack Thompson was standing next to me telling me how Mario kills children......weird

Everything I type is a lie! (OMG devil sentence)

Seriously though I give this a huge meh as I hate batteries.

There is no such thing as a "wireless nunchuck"...the point of a nunchuck is that there is some sort of wire between the two pieces...

I can understand where Holyetheline is coming from, I'm 6'3" myself. Even still, how often do you hold your arms way out to play something on the Wii?
Oni's Avatar
Oni at 12/07/2007 11:32
This strikes me as a solution looking for a problem. I mean, the cord on the Nunchuk isn't exactly constricting, and while annoying at times, it's not exactly punching you in the face while you play, y'know?

@ Shin Oni:

Seriously, you should have gotten one of these instead. I love my Penguin United Wii Remote charger, and I would recommend it to everyone on Destructoid!

The last thing I bought from Nyko want not even an electronic, it was a DS case and the stitching broke in like 2 - 3 weeks not not mention that felt CHEAP. Im not even going to mention PS2 controllers... Personally Ill just stay away from anything Nyko.

Again, Nyko, let me know when you make a wireless Classic Controller.

I don't know of any games where I use only the nunchuk and not the Wiimote, but I can think of a few hundred games where I use only the classic controller and not the Wiimote. So why should I be tied to the Wiimote for those?

It shouldn't need an explicit off switch. If it isn't getting a signal from a wiimote it just should turn itself off. and on if it is. Sounds like lazy design to me.

It might have potential I have had issues a few times wanting to pull my arms further apart not alot mind you. And I think the nunchuck could use a little more weight and a battery might be just what it needs. Doesnt look this will play nice with the new controller covers though.
