Words. Hah! Who needs 'em?

If you do, there's a detailed look at Sega's and Next Level Games' upcoming Captain America: Super Soldier that I wrote up. You can read that, if you want. But if you want to see the game in action, here's the place to do it. We filmed the demo that Next Level's Brandon Gill gave me on the show floor. Check it out to see Cap in action, as he cracks fools in the face with his fists, his boots, his shield, and his knee. Because that's how Americans rolls.

Captain America: Super Soldier is out next summer for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, Nintendo DS, and PlayStation Portable. This footage is from an early build of the Xbox 360 version.

Combat is...uh... a bit boring.

mmmm the combat system seems very slow, repetitive and fugly, without the graceful of Arkham Asylum

Yeah, I agree with the combat system comments.

Not that they couldn't improve it by the time of release, but as it stands the combat looks really stiff.

Batman AA had a certain level of grace to it. It wasn't just fast, it was fluid and while perhaps not every punch and kick landed due to hitbox issues, the combat was so well done that you simply didn't notice because you were having so much fun being a badass

Here, well, it just looks boring. The animations lack in variation for one. The enemies seem either too easy or they simply don't gang up on Capt. America like they do in AA. Also, stuff like the shield stuns them for WAY too long and can hit FAR too many guys at once.

Granted, they were just trying to demonstrate the system so the AI is probably on the easiest setting possible. But the combat still needs quite a bit of work. In order to feel like a super hero, the game needs to present the combat not in a one on one state, but rather a "hit you, then I'll hit you and then I'll hit you ALL the way over there because I'm a badass as you can't stop me!" kind of moment.

I'm still pleased enough to keep an eye on this game, but they're going to have to show me something more with this.

The Invaders are in. That sounds promising even though its not likely I'll get to pummel nazis as Namor. How they didn't get Brubaker to write this game is completely beyond me.

(off topic) has any of you at NYCC see the walking dead premire there? If so was it good?

That looked remarkably meh. About the only thing it did do is make me excited for the new Batman game since I know that will be good.

That is EXACTLY as I expected. Awful, just like 85% of the stuff Sega puts out now, sadly. Once I heard they picked up the licenses to Iron Man, Cap, and Thor, I KNEW they would suck. I'm certain they paid Marvel fairly well for the rights, but given how Marvel is trying to turn over a new leaf with their comic films lately, it is impressive that they don't seem to care that the games stink. A sale, is a sale, I suppose.

Those were some really stiff animations. As for the game itself, it looks kinda meh. Just how id imagine a movie tie-in.

Why do the Nazi flags not have swastikas? Oh yeah and booo combat, it looks like a bad version of Batman:AA.

Perhaps it's because people still find the swastika as an offensive symbol of hate and death. I believe I read that the swastika has its origins in Buddhism and in no way bears the horrible stigma that it is now associated with. But people still associate it with the Nazis and is still considered a symbol of hate, so much so that Germany has grown super-sensitive about its Nazi past and I believe have since made it illegal to depict the swastika. So maybe Sega and Marvel don't want to risk having the game banned over there for depicting the swastika.

The symbol on those flags is the HYDRA symbol, so its there for a reason I imagine given HYDRA's role in the Marvel Universe. Of course, I wonder if there will be any swastikas in the game at all, but they have a reason for that.

i think what bothers me the most is that he puts his shield up onto his back after almost every attack and he immediately stands upright when not fighting. seems kinda lazy but hopefully they'll tighten up the animations.

This looks like it could be good. It probably won't be since it's a movie tie in game. They may say it isn't (I haven't followed it that much) but it is.

Is anyone else repulsed by the horrible character design? Cap just looks downright ugly and embarrassing to me

His facial animations and just his face overall look like ass on a sandwich, but still, I am actually excited for this game. The shield stuff looks pretty awesome, and while combat is definitely slow, I'm optimistic. Not so much about the movie at this point. Especially since it seems Marvel has some ridiculous boner for erasing the Nazis from all their stuff and replacing them with Hydra. Thus far both the new Avengers cartoon and, seemingly, the movie and game, have done it. Kinda stupid, if'n I may opine.

I wish they had used the movie version of the outfit. I like it more than the one from the comics.

The combat does seem dull here, but like sobik88 said, I think some of that's due to the guy demoing it. It looks a little better in other clips I've seen. Maybe this was his first time playing or something, idk.

The coolest thing I've seen in this game so far is the "Crippling Strike" slo-mo punch to the face. That looks fun. :)

Combat looked dull, either the game was on easy, the AI was bad due to being an early build or the AI is just going to suck ass in general. Game could still be good though. The enemies in Arkham were dumb shits and that game was still fun.
