NYCC: Sega announces Captain America: Super Soldier photo

Just in time for New York Comic-Con, Sega is revealing Captain America: Super Soldier for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, Wii, and Nintendo DS. The game will hit shelves in 2011.

The third-person Super Soldier will have Captain America facing off against Red Skull, engaging in a "free flow combat" system while tossing his iconic shield at foes from afar. The game is said to feature a "highly athletic combat system with fluid platforming and a highly tuned suit of shield attacks."

Not just good for bashing up the baddies, the shield can also be used to solve puzzles and even scale walls.

The game's story is being written by Christos Gage, the man responsible for Marvel's Avenger: The Initiative, as well as a host of other titles including Iron Man, Civil War: House of M, and more. The story for the game is said to exist in the "same world" as the movie, which hits theaters next year.

I expect it to suck. I've given up on sega and them making good super hero games. They've had 3 chances already that I know of and messed up each time

The Hulk game that Sega made was kinda fun. Nothing mind-blowing, but there was entertainment to be had in smashing shit.

This game needs a shield cam like the glaive had in Dark Sector. I'm buying it either way. I love superhero games even when they suck, and have been looking forward to this one in particular.

@ Char Aznable - You clearly haven't play The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction. THAT! is the bext and most fun Hulk game ever. That game along with X-Men Origins and Batman AA are the three best hero games i've play in the past decade...games Sega had nothing to do with it. So, unless Sega are just going to be publishers....its going to suck...HARD!

Also, was able to find a few images with a quick google search. I'm liking the blood on the shield here.

Is this a sign of hope that Cap's outfit in the movie will be the good one (see: the games one) and not the shitty one?

If Next Level is behind the Wii version then there's hope. The rest of you guys are SOL.

I think Batman: AA finally showed some devs a couple of viable strategies to finalize a good comic adaption. Free flow being one of them. But since the "original" will rearrive sooner or later, it's going to be no real competition, I bet.

Whenever I see stories are penned by a Comic writer (no matter how awesome their resume), I feel like it means pretty much nothing as it's going to be:

Sega: We need you to cram these villains in, these cameo's and this kind of storyline.
Writer: K.

And that is all a writer will do.

Oh wait, I remember who Christos Gage is now. He wrote Absolution for Avatar. First issue's in the link for free, if anyone wants it.

@ madman0017 - I don't know much about the game writing process, but based on his previous work and reputation, I'm thinking he'll have a little more creative control than that. Hope so anyway.

Being a Cap fan, my hopes are low on this game. Why doesn't Sega just get Platinum Games to develop their Marvel titles? If they did that, then Hulk, Iron Man, and soon to be Captain America and Thor would be as good as, if not better than, Arkham Asylum.

@Master Snake

Sega don't own Platinum, a lot of their staff left Capcom for creative freedom so I don't think they'd want to be dictated as to what they should produce.

If Platinum said they wanted to do a licensed game though, I'm sure Sega would jump at the offer.

Hey, wait a minute now. Christos Gage is a pretty writer. Though if the game's gameplay stinks, that doesn't mean a thing.
