NYCC: Archie Comics to publish a Mega Man comic photo

Mega Man is so hot right now. Tons of new games are coming and to compliment all of them Archie Comics announced at NYCC that they will be publishing a brand new Mega Man comic. Now don't instantly slap our forehead here, as any comic fan will tell you Archie Comics does some good stuff. They also do the Sonic comic, which is not so good.

The new comic book will be drawn by Patrick “Spaz” Spaziante and written by infamous Archie action/adventure writer Ian Flynn. I'm not sure why he's infamous; maybe he killed somebody to get the job or something. The comics will be told from the persepctive of Rock/Mega Man and chronicle his battles against Dr. Wiley and his army of evil robots.

I'm ten years out of the comic book loop, but judging from the cover and preview page it's looking pretty solid. I'm definitely digging the artwork as I think it fits perfectly with Mega Man's universe.

I'll be honest, I'm probably going to end up buying the entire series regardless of quality.

Archie makes some horrible comics, this is bad news.

I remember the Sonic comics. At first, it was pretty meh - with a heavy focus on unfunny humor and crap. After about the first year or two, it actually picked up.

Was even fun to read for a while... but then they retconned Sally's death and killed off Robotnik. In the same issue, if I remember correctly. That's about the time it became absolutely painful to read, and I never picked it back up after that.

Mega Man getting penned by the same guys is bad news, but then again, maybe this is just what the writers need: a new start. It takes a miracle to have a comic series go on for 100+ issues and manage to not become complete dreck, and Sonic was not somehow exempt from that.

Of course, if this ends up going on for that amount of time too, it's assured to suffer the same fate.

I don't know how to feel about this... Some of the sonic comics are decent and Archie's own comic is... good? If out dated. I mean I probably will not buy it only because I won't have much money during this time. Heck even if it comes out with when summer starts I still won't be able to add it to my comic list.

Really? I heard the Sonic comics were...well, interesting, in their own way.

Maybe not as interesting as this, but still, y'know. Interesting.

Cut Man looks...odd, but at least it's not Ruby Spears.

I'll take a look when it comes out.

Sorry; what exactly is "Not so good" about Archie publishing Sonic?

You do realize... that it was Archie's success with Sonic that led Capcom to make this happen, right? And that Archie's hedgehog is so vastly different from Sega's mascot, that, just because Sega is struggling with Sonic, doesn't make Archie's hedgehog by association "suck" too.

Flynn and Spaziante are two longtime Sonic fans. Flynn is "infamous", only because he's an ascended fan, who impressed TPTB at Archie with his fan works enough to have become the chief writer for Sonic for the last 5 years. And in that 5 years, the previous writers' "Furry Soap" was discarded, artwork improved and sales went up. As for Spaz... he's just a damn good artist. No one's asking this new Mega Man comic to win an Eisner, but I do think it's in capable hands.

Dudes, the guy writing Megaman has been writing Sonic since 160--which is right when it got a thousand times better. He's actually really fucking good--looking forward to this SO damn much.

I took a break from the Archie Sonic comics for some years, came back, and now I can't get enough of 'em.

Mega Man fans, I know it's going to be hard for you to believe, but four days from now Inafune will quit Capcom permanently. We have no idea how this will impact Mega Man Legends 3. If you want to save the game, you must contact Inafune and tell him to change his mind before he goes public with his decision. We're counting on you here in the future. It's really weird in our time, and things don't smell the way they used to. There's a huge shadow that hovers over the city, but no one can see its origin.
