NY Comic Con: Top Cow teases The Darkness videogame sequel photo

With a wink and a nod, Top Cow Productions has hinted at a sequel to the 2K Games-published first-person title, The Darkness.

"We can't say 'Darkness' and 'videogame sequel' in the same sentence," they said at a low-key panel that took place on Saturday afternoon, "So Darkness. Wink. Sequel."

This is not the first time we've heard rumblings of a sequel to the Starbreeze Studios-developed first-person title. Late last year, Dutch rapper Lycon Strife had claimed a Starbreeze employee had confirmed to him that a next-gen sequel was in the works. Neither 2K Games nor Starbreeze have publicly acknowledged the title, but a solid Metacritic rating and decent sales make it an inevitability.

Starbreeze were also said to be working on The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, a next-gen remake of their Xbox and PC first-person shooter Escape from Butcher Bay, which seems to have fallen completely off the map (*cough* shelved *cough*). The Swedish developer is currently working on a secret next-gen update to a classic Electronic Arts title, currently only known as "Project RedLime."

Uh, they kinda did say 'Darkness' and 'videogame sequel' in the same sentence.

Nice try.

Weird. I was replaying this just the other day, and thinking that a sequel could definitely be possible. I enjoyed that game very much, despite the horrid AI of the darklings. I think a sequel could work out pretty well.

I liked the first a lot, it was really underrated in my opinion yet at the same time could of used some work. One thing though is that the Darkness is one of the few games that I actually cared about the characters, that one scene... (anyone who has played it will know what I'm talking about) and what happens after it, was just a huge "holy shit" for me.

I'm with the group here that says the first was definitely worth playing through at least once. It definitely had it's failings, but the storyline and the experience derived from pursuing that story through it's twists made the game more dramatically engaging, than say, Halo 3.

In regards to a sequel? Again, I'd definitely play it as a rental, at the very least.

I want a sequel. Especially if it could be even better. It NEEDS to be.

Last I heard, Dark Athena had been scrapped as a remake and reborn as an actual sequel, which is why there's been no news on it for so long.

I stopped playing that game after I got the weird glitch where the girlfriend falls asleep on you and you can't get off the couch. Get off me, woman! I need to go summon demons from hell to kill people for me!

Hmm, I guess I'll have to check out the first one.

Although it might be nice to see other Top Cow games instead.

I had a surprisingly good time with the first despite its flaws. Hopefully the possible sequel will keep going in the right direction.

I was at Comicon today. The only game that interested me was that B-Boy game (breakdancing.) Also, I was that fat white kid who was with the blue-shirted asian kid and the skinny white kid. We asked most of the cosplayers that we saw for pix.

Amen, sister. I thought the game got a bad rap; the shadow powers were just too fun to use.

No surprise about the Riddick game. That just stank of cash in - I mean, half assed sequels are one thing but remaking the game? It still looks pretty respectable on my PC thanks. They were probably just going to add higher resolution textures to the game or tweak it here and there.

If I'm going to part with money I want a new storyline to punch my way through.

I completely agree. This game was a huge disappointment for me because it didn't really follow the comic. (Nice avatar, btw. Saw them twice)

In the "It was worth playing through crowd" it did seem totally ridiculious though that most of the interesting stuff happened in cutscenes rather then play.

The game wasn't fantastic but I really enjoyed the first one. Ditch the multiplayer this time around, focus on the single player story and I'd pick it up.

Well the first one was a lot of fun. If they fix the issues with it, I would totally pick it up

Great game.I actually liked the multyplayer,if a sequel comes up,a multiplayer is a must if they want me to buy the game.It adds replayability, which is essential for a purchase in my case.
