NXE update preview application process starting now photo

Microsoft made some noise earlier last week by detailing the next NXE update and mentioning that people could sign up to get into a preview in the future. Well, that future is here. Just like the spring preview, Microsoft will be selecting people to check out this update early based on a survey available now through the Microsoft Connect Web site.

According to Major Nelson, Microsoft will be selecting “a good cross-section” of Xbox LIVE members in order to get the “best feedback.” Microsoft is looking for thousands of people to participate across all regions served and across the two forms of Xbox LIVE membership. Yes, Silver people are still worth something, apparently.

If you're wondering, this update won't have the cool stuff: Twitter, Facebook, and Last.FM integration. This update is packing Netflix tweaks and the highly-anticipated Avatar Marketplace.

As Nelson notes, if you're accepted, Microsoft will let you know within a week. Good luck (if you're into this kind of thing).

Still worrying about the banner ads.

I'm praying that the banner ads make it so Silver members can get more features.

I'd never pay for Xbox Live, but I would certainly wade through some ads in order to play games online.

I'll be damned, it just had to happen now that I'm spending my vacations in Colombia and won't be coming back home until next week.

Avatar Marketplace is highly anticipated? That's kind of sad.

Awesome. Because I totally carry my console ID with me at work.

Why can't ms use the same set of people who got into the NXE preview last fall?

Full downloadable games is good news, although the PS3 has been doing it to some extent for months without the fanfare, which i can't help but applaud sony for.

That said, a harddrive big enough to actually hold more than two games for less than $100 would be nice. Microsoft's proprietary bullshit is a kick in the balls every time something storage-related comes up. 512mb for $50? TF. They give away more spacious flash-drives in cereal boxes. For free. FUCK.

I digress: Has anyone tried to stream netflix recently? I tried it once a while ago and concluded it was a vairfunny joke by microsoft - seriously it was YouTube quality and didn't even stream in real-time on a 2mb connection... something is wrong with this.

This update seems lame and uninteresting.

Being able to share NetFlix movies definitely does not seem lame and uninteresting to me. I'm prettttty excited about being able to do this! Also, the supposed speed increases are definitely welcomed.

@eggdog14 - I've never had a problem with NetFlix. It comes through in slightly sub-DVD quality, but it was definitely a great picture and I never had any hiccups with playback.

I signed up in hopes that one of the tweaks is not having the menu take forever -_-;

@eggdog - I've never had any issues streaming Netflix, even HD stuff like Serenity. I watched about 6 or 7 movies last weekend with nary a glitch.

Colombia, The Bozz? :p How odd, I happen to live there... which is why, unfortunately, this little update won't be made available to me as of yet... not until it has passed its testing phase and whatnot. What I'm most interested about in this update is the ability to select whichever resolution no matter what info the TV sends... I've been waiting to crank my 360 to 1080p on my 46-inch TV through HDMI for quite some damn time now.
