Nvidia is Forbes' Company of the Year photo

Graphics card and processor maker Nvidia was named the Company of the Year by Forbes magazine.

Forbes lets the gamers and geeks worry about things like SLI and GPUs; they're more concerned with how much money Nvidia is making. They now own 62% of the graphics market, and that's up from 57% a year ago. In fact, since Nvidia went public in 1999, shares have risen 21-fold, and are now quickly moving into Apple range. They're expected to pull in $4 billion in gross sales this year.

We know that they make PC graphics cards as well as the GPUs for the PlayStation 3, but to stay on top they're looking beyond games. The Forbes article mentions potential uses like deep-sea seismic analysis and modeling portfolio risk.

Good for them. Now how about a celebratory price drop on the 8800s, eh?

ATI will always have my heart over Nvidia, if over nothing more than how retarded NVidia's drivers are.

Seriously. If Nvidia started releasing properly working drivers and driver installers, they'd see a 1000% increase in sales and usher in a new golden age of PC gaming.

Jet has a good point, Nvidia drivers kind of suck...
I have used both video cards, The 9600,9800 era was a good one for ATI, now Nvidia has better products.

What? You think nVidia drivers suck? I'm still fuming over ATI's awful Control Center -- it goes well with their horrifically broken installers. I also clearly remember when any Java program gave nothing but a blank screen for, like, 8 months until it was traced to a problem with ATI's drivers. Arrgh!

As for nVidia looking beyond games, well, that makes sense. Their mobo chipsets are pretty good (after a lame start), and GPUs these days are pretty much just specialized CPUs in disguise.

Burnt Meatloaf: I dunno how ATI drivers are, but I do know that there are a handful of games (like Bioshock and Timeshift) that I cannot play, period, because of BSOD's caused by my nVidia card's drivers.

There's a new driver out, so I'll try that, but lately nVidia drivers have not been making me happy.

That's pretty sweet. There's a lot of money to be made in electronics.

ATI drivers are generally more fail than the nVidia ones. Unless an ATI card is like 30% cheaper with the same specs as its NV counterpart, don't ever buy one :P

As much as I love my ATI cards, and have always bought ATI... Nvidia just makes better stuff. I always have to use the Omega Drivers with my ATI cards because the ones ATI makes are crap...

Even if I had an Nvidia card I would still use the Omega Drivers

I have historically had much better success with nVidia cards over ATI.

i haven't a problem with Nvidia drivers in XP, the onyl problem i had was with a card itself. as for vista, i heard horror stories involving video drivers from both companies, along with horror stories about everything else in vista

way back I bought nothing but nvidia- then they started to suck and I only used ATI- last year I switched back to nvidia because the new nvidias way outclass the ATIs .... I am sticking to nvidia right now- I have an 8600 in 1 machine and an 8800 in another and they are both working pretty damned well- no driver issues either for those that were groaning on the earlier posts- though my last ATI had nothing but problems with the stupid control center
