It's a real shame that no matter what happens, there will be a 3DS revision that includes both nubs.
I'd like the functionality of a 2nd analog nub but, I have to admit, it looks unnervingly off-center.
I'd say it's going to be $15 USD, exchange rates are pretty high right now. As for support I think this will actually get supported 3rd parties have been asking for this, and programming the right stick to control the camera can't be very difficult. What makes this different from WM+, and Wii Speak is that this clearly benefits some games were those other add-ons only might have benefited some games.
Sucks for me as an early adopter, but I guess that's what happens. So long as it's comfortable it can't be too bad.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if this became a revision of the 3DS. It just makes sense to add another slide-pad and they should have included it in the original design.
I've always been a Nintendo fan, especially their handhelds, but they really missed the mark with the 3DS. Looking at pictures of this thing, I keep waiting for Iwata to come and say "Just kidding!! Wasn't that a funny joke?". It's like a bad joke that just won't end.

I mean way I see it, XBox needs you to pay $60 a year to get the full enjoyment out of your system and games with Livw. Nintendo is asking for a one time $20 payment to enhance games that won't necessarily be required to have the 2nd nub. I don't mind.
The price and even the battery isn't why the world hates this. It takes an already oversized portable and makes it larger. It splinters the market and game devs wont be able to take true advantage of the pad because the majority wont have this thing. Finally this thing should have been included in the 3DS in the first place.
Knowing that MGS 3D supports the thing means I'm definitely in. I was excited about getting it because it's the only MGS I haven't played (didn't own a PS2) but I played the game at E3 and the controls were terrible. It's the same as the PSP Metal Gears so I suppose I would get used to them after a while, but I was wishing I had a second circle pad all the time I played. Who cares if it looks ugly? The DS Phat was horrible and that didn't make it any less fun. I just hope it doesn't make the system terribly big.

You're openly admitting that the 3DS will be better with a second analog nub, but rather than blaming Nintendo as the designer of the console for not including it in the first place, you're actually thanking them for coming up with it as an extra bulky add-on AND you're going to pay them $20 for it?

This isn't a big deal to me since I don't own a 3DS. But Barely Aname (or whatever that square enix RPG is called) has me eyeing a 3DS now. Maybe I'll get one with the next (inevitable) hardware revision.
The simple fact that they thought it would be OK to release a console without a second nub to begin with in the year 2011 still boggles my mind.

While no one should be freaking out, I can definitely see where people would be critical of Nintendo over this. It's not like it's been a year and a half since the 3DS was released, and they just now realized the standard controls aren't getting the job done. If this thing is complete now, then they knew games were going to need this since before the 3DS was released.
Think about it, if the 3DS hadn't sold below expectations, then you'd be paying $250 plus the cost of this attachment plus the cost of a new game to play Monster Hunter.
It's quite alright if you have no problem with that, but if you're angry because other people are criticizing Nintendo for this, then you have your head buried in the sand. Or possibly somewhere else. I also have no idea why people are comparing this to Kinect or Move or attachments for musical games when it's not even close to being the same situation.

Because it's the same. It's a hardware peripheral just like the Kinect is. The only difference is the marketing. The Kinect was marketed as a new console, but when you break it down, it's just a new controller.

Do you need Move or Kinect in order to enjoy a standard game for a popular, pre-existing franchise that wasn't designed specifically for Move or Kinect? Were Move or Kinect released a few months after the release of the PS3 or Xbox 360? Were Sony or Microsoft aware of the need for Move or Kinect functionality before either system was even launched? Could either Move or Kinect been added to the PS3 or Xbox 360 for a very minimal cost per unit?

I have never once missed having a second circle pad on my 3DS OR DS. I don't understand why people keep insisting that dual analog is mandatory just because it's 2011 and other people do it.
I didn't think I was going to get the slide pad, but Kingdom Hearts 3D is making me change my mind. I still plan on getting the 3DS for christmas. I probably won't get the slide pad though until KH3D comes out.
... so I guess it's going to become mandatory. Because all the games you listed are big hitters for the 3ds.
SO will those games be playable without the add-on? Quite frankly if the gameplay is smooth without the need of an extra nub then that's fine. However, if developers are going out of their way to program specifically for it because of a flaw in nintendo's original console, then this is full of fail. I guess we have to wait and see how games that use this peripherial play without using it.

Because playing a shooter with one stick is utterly hopeless today in this age of "everything needs to be twitch twitch bang call of halo" and nobody wants to make a game like Goldeneye anymore.
