You want more positive 3DS stories? Here's one for you, plucked fresh from the baking tray! While Nubageddon scours the land and reaps the souls of children, evil publisher Activision has come out in support of Nintendo's circle pad add-on, calling it a great move.
"It does make the hardware more relevant and compatible to the style of games we make," said publishing boss Eric Hirshberg. "I don't have anything to announce in relation to that, but I think it was a great move and it opens up that platform to more styles of games."
Of course, support from Activision is basically like having Satan as a character witness, but it's still a bit of positive press, so there you go. I just hope that the publishers backing this peripheral up think about supporting it, because the complete lack of compatible software is what kills almost every Nintendo add-on.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Nintendo: Ehh, no, we're good. Thanks though.

The Slide Pad is just a thing. Why do all these gamers have their tampons in a twist over this? Just being cunts?
Hmph, couldn't have said that better. This article was worth it for that line alone.
And yes, I'm not complaining about the people complaining about people complaining. How very meta. We have to go deeper.
isn't this just another example of nintendo being stubborn.
And this time we have to suffer for it. I mean how hard could it have been to include 2 from the start.
"Except it have a multitouch touchpad in the back, which can behave as L2 and R2 easily."
I really don't like the sound of that. It just seems too "I threw a grenade by accident" prone that it neededs to be.
L2 is the cradle button, with the L button of the actual system working as L1.
It technically had 3 R buttons, which added to the numb makes symetry completelly absent on this thing.

*Facepalms at Nintendo*
I don't like the back touch pad for anything like that. I extend my fingers when I play subconciously. I don't want to enter scope mode, thow grenades or virtually do anything with the touch pad in action intensive situations without me prompting it first with some other command first, like pushing a button.
I would rather go for alternative control options.
I see it does have a 4 buttons!
It adds functionality that the device should have had at launch, it costs more money, adds weight, makes the 3DS more bulky, uses batteries but doesn't act as a battery pack and allows the 3DS to retain it's delightful lack of symmetry.
Awesome!!!
so Call of Duty? cause i have no idea what other games Activision is publishing now.
The west makes garbage portable games. The only good western-made portable games are done by small companies and the games just go completely unnoticed like Henry Hatsworth or Monster Tale (which are made by the same people and both totally unplayed by gamers).
The west wouldn't know good portable gaming if it got hit by a truck full of it.
Want an additional analog stick, that'll cost you extra.
Hey you want decent battery life, we can sell you a battery booster for that.
I guess he was pulling facts out of his ass.
What actually comes to mind with this thought is the fact that Nintendo REALLY IS trying to copy the motions Sony makes to some degree. I mean think about it: They did a "We're sorry" package situation somewhat like Sony did for the PSN crisis, and that really paled in comparison to what Sony did for a plethora of reasons, but even way before that, before there was even a hint there would ever be a problem with this, they designed the 3DS with 1 analog nub exactly like the PSP has -a design that people agreed pretty heavily about being bad for YEARS now and is only now getting fixed through Sony's NEXT handheld, instead of with a revision or peripheral.
Fuck. Oh no, a $20 optional peripheral that can add new gameplay elements to the 3DS? The horror!
As long as it's used properly, which I can't imagine how it couldn't be, it'd be fine. Jeeesus.
