NPD: Gamers to maintain or increase gaming purchases in 2009 photo

Recession? Whatever. Even if we have to live in a dumpster and eat Doritos crumbs, gamers will still get our game on. Let's say you have $80 left over after you pay your bills at the beginning of the month. That breaks down to $10 for a half month's worth of ramen, another $10 for toilet paper, and then $60 for the next hot game. What else do you need?

NPD's report Entertainment Trends in America says that entertainment will remain popular, despite our poor economy. They say that "consumers say they’ll continue to purchase at least the same amount of many entertainment categories in the coming year." That means just as many games, movies, and music as you bought last year when you still had a steady job.

The study says that the average American spends $160 a month on entertainment. That's like two console games and a DS game. Lucky! Malnutrition!

N00b, everyone knows that you can just get TP for free from public restrooms, grab one of those tire sized wheels of TP and your good for 6 months.

But yeah, sad but true, now to go run out and grab GH Metallica.

Fixed.

$60 + $60 + $40 = $160

Even thouggh I lost my first job last year thabkfully I had a good career center at my collage so this recession has had little effect on my buying habits.

At the beggining of 2008 I had 5 ps3 games, 8 360 games and 2 Wii games, as of now I have 28 ps3 games ( and I'm eyeing a 500gb hard drive) 9 360 games and 6 wii games.I'm so thankful I have a smart mother who saw this recession coming and had us take a few pre-cautions.

Condiment packets are your friend. Tonight's menu: Tomato (ketchup) soup, Saltines with mustard, relish salad and cinnabon icing. Viktor Navorski taught me well.

Plus tax megaStryke... If I gave up on video games and movies my money-related stress would disappear.

I piss recession.

I get paid, and I buy every and any game I want. Sure, by the end of the month i'm scraping my change together to buy fuel (we are gang raped in the ass by black guys built like he-man everytime we go the the filling station here in the UK)

But i always get the games I want, next to Weed it's my main priority.

I've got to get mine before I become a Daddy, going to be a real strain on my gaming budget that little bugger! Got to. make the most of. what little. freedom. i have. Left.

Spending your hard earned precious money on video games? You live in a dump and eat junk food, yet you spend a good portion of your little money on games?! Priorities, man...

I'm with SexualChocolate. I buy weed, then the games I want, then I worry about the essentials like gas, food, and hookers.

Agreed.

I haven't stopped buying new games. The only difference is I'm more reluctant to buy the last big console I don't have (PS3). So I'm milking my other consoles for what they're worth. Even my ps2 - Just bought Persona 4.

Mmmmm ramen

Also you can get all the free/cheap/awesome gaming you want with indie games, freeware, and kongregate games. Screw $60 price tags, the games aren't THAT good.

I rarely spend $60 on a game. I always wait for the price to go down or a decent sale. I'm also with Chronic on this.. Get your setup all together, then worry about which game will be played on your television or HDTV.

On a final note.. Some of us have to buy medication (does this fit in with the weed comment?). Therefore games come after a slew of other expenses.

Look, maybe it's because I'm still in college and my parents are giving me money for food instead of helping me pay for college, but even out of college and on my own, I don't think I could last on ramen. Pasta costs just a bit more, tastes so much better (when you add sauce, I mean), and is healthier. I'll pay a premium for a slightly more expensive cheap food rather than have maybe one more game a month. Besides, I can't stand Top Ramen anymore. I curse myself for developing taste buds and having to rely on the $1 a pop instant ramen bowls over Top Ramen's cheap offerings.
