And 1.37 million for the 360!! That's crazy. I know I'm a bit of a Microsoft hater but who's buying these things? I hardly know a single person who has one. I don't mean that I don't know anyone with a functioning 360 either. I mean I only know one other person besides me who was dumb enough to buy one. I've said it before and I'll say it again I really think ol Microsoft is cooking the books.
PS3....meh that seems like an average month for Sony. I could be wrong. How many did they ship??
So doing better than last year, isn't good enough anymore? Why is the Wii held to such a high standards? Why are you comparing Kinect to the Wii? A peripheral to a console? The PS3 has been out just as long as the Wii has, so shouldn't it be doing ALOT better as well? Instead of loosing 25% of its sales from last year, with a disastrous only 530,000 units sold. At least the Wii is running neck, and neck with the 360. So Nintendo, and Microsoft are just leaving Sony in they're dust!
That being said.. My biggest game of 2011 is Infamous 2 :)
Sony's recent strategy seems to involve releasing big exclusives in an uncrowded first quarter, which worked well for them last year, and this upcoming year looks like more of the same. Whether or not the PS3 takes back the sales rate lead between it and the Xbox will likely depend on Kinect.
My partner at work (a non-gamer) said that she was interested in getting a Wii. I encouraged her to do so, saying that they had some good bundle deals on them. Her reply "yea, probably because the 'Kinecter Box' is a million times better". I confirmed that she was refering to the Kinect, then asked her why she thought that. "You can dance and stuff." To wrap it up i asked what she thought about the Move. "What's that?"
MS marketing has them by the short hairs.
Sony had the #1 selling game in the world last week, and by an absolute mile. In fact, it sold more than #2 and #3 combined. Of course, #3 was also a Sony exclusive. I get the feeling they're jolly enough to buy their own gifts.
I feel so bad for Sony right now, I'm thinking about NOT jailbreaking my PS3 and maybe buying a PSN game or something just to support the fuckers.
Saturn and Dreamcast have had their revenge through Microsoft.
Sony will have one or two interesting titles for Move. Core gamers may go for Move, but casual gamers have said it: Dance Central!
I am also curious to know what 2.5 kinect buyers are playing? My best bet is that Kinect got snatched up by researchers and garage enthusiast who want to play with Kinect core technology. Kinect itself has a lot of promises and just two games worth playing: dance central and your shape.
Unsurprisingly, Kinect Sports seems to be the game people are picking up for Kinect the most, at least on Amazon. I makes me wonder just how many Kinect purchasers are Wii owners who primarily played Wii Sports and dance games. Do they really need two systems to play basically the same games? Is it that much of an upgrade to them to justify such a large extra investment?
I can understand why Sony hasn't pushed Move that much yet. It's a controller, and you don't really market controllers, you market the games that you play with those controllers. I won't even consider buying one until I see how it works with the games that I want to play. However, if Sony is smart, they'll push it like hell when KillZone3 and the next SOCOM title are released. How it works with high-quality FPS games is going to make or break Move.
Yes they do need to market the device itself if they want to succeed.
Kinect is marketed as an experience rather than just a controller. People aren't buying it because of Kinect Adventures, I know that much. They're buying it because it's different. Move isn't different, therefore it needs quality games in order to generate interest.
