Not surprisingly, Wii Sports Resort is a hit photo

Surely, everyone saw this coming: Nintendo has revelaed that Wii Sports Resort is a ridiculously huge success.

The publisher has revealed that since its June 26 launch, over 1 million copies of the game have been sold in the United States. Oh, and in Japan and Europe each, more than 1 million copies of Wii Sports Resort have been sold as well. This shouldn't be too surprising, as the game ships with the exciting new Wii MotionPlus peripheral that everyone just has to have. Oh, and the words "Wii Sports" are so popular that appending them to pretty much anything would result in a sales explosion (i.e. Wii Sports Colonoscopy is trademark just waiting to happen).

It helps that the collection of games, including Swordplay and archery, are actually pretty damned good. Were you one of the 1 million Wii Sports Resort sales?

That last little bit sums it up pretty well. Pretty much everyone says "and it's also a really good game" like some sort of "oh yeah, I forgot that Nintendo knows exactly what it's doing 99% of the time" afterthought. I'm still waiting for a few cheques in the mail until I buy it though.

xiaolinstyle: You speak as if Nintendo is lying. Ever heard of casual gamers? Little kids and their moms? 20-something bachelors who don't play videogames otherwise?

Basically everybody.

I AM one of those people.
and yes in between bouts of playing "TEH HARDCOREZ G@mEZ" (or something to that effect), I enjoy playing the odd bit of Wii sports Resort when my friends call round.

and yeah, it also happens to be a pretty good game too

I played the game and it's pretty boring. Not sure why everyone is in love with it.

I'm sad to say that I, too, bought Wii Sports Resort, and am contributing to the dumbing down of gaming. You see, the girlfriend wanted it for her birthday, so there you go.

And the sad thing? It will get almost no play time whatsoever. Were both busy adults and I couldn't stand the non-game tripe that was Wii Sports and sold it off right after getting my Wii.

Who did you sell Wii Sports to? It comes with the console. Everybody (except the Japanese) would have a copy!

I sold it to a local independent game store. They'll buy most anything.

Sorry about the multi-post, I kept getting error messages.

I bought mine on Saturday and enjoyed the Sword play (non cock version) Frisbee, archery and table tennis!

I'd like to see a game based on the sword fighting with robust RPG features, character creation, online play and a cool Wii sword peripheral!

I'm an actual gamer, like most (or is it "all"?) of Dtoiders and I love Wii Sports Resort, it's a good mini-games collection.

I don't really care about Wii Motion+ until I see a complete game using it.

There's Captain Obvious! Haven't seen him in a while, and I was starting to get worried.
