Not surprisingly, these Guitar Hero: On Tour screens look like Guitar Hero

     Activision

Today, Activision has released a batch of new screens for Guitar Hero: On Tour, their Nintendo DS version of their money-printing music game. There's been plenty of hullabaloo surrounding the fret board peripheral that the game ships with, but it's good to see from these screens that the game looks like its bigger console brothers.

You can also see that some of the more "videogame-y" aspects of Guitar Hero III are back. Boss battles seem to be present, and it looks like the developers are taking advantage of more than just the Nintendo DS touch screen. In one screen, you can see that you have to extinguish a fire by blowing into the DS microphone. The lack of the orange button doesn't bode well for difficulty, but these little extras -- along with a liberal use of tricky hammer-ons and pull-offs -- could pose a bit of a challenge for veterans.

While not playable, Activision did offer a demonstration of Guitar Hero: On Tour at Nintendo's media summit last week in San Francisco. Seeing as how Destructoid was not invited (thanks, Nintendo!), I can't really offer up anything in terms of impressions. But just about every other videogame outlet was in attendance, so let us know if you read anything particular interesting somewhere else!

Guitar Hero: On Tour will be available this July.

[Update: Seconds after I posted this, Flynn over at GayGamer just posted up some impressions and information on the game from the Nintendo Media Summit. Check it out!]

God I'm sick of these games requiring you to blow into the DS. Yes, I'm sure that won’t make you look like a complete retard on the bus.

Although I guess in this case it isn't something you would be playing on the bus anyway...but the point still stands!

Agree w/lameness on games that require you to blow into the microphone. Still pissed that my DS can't recognize when I say blue for Brain Age.

Psh I don't want to blow on my DS screen. I hate blowing on the screen/mic... sometimes I spit when I blow and that's just plain wrong.

BLOW OUT THE FIRE? Why the fuck does every developer feel the need to use every feature on the DS. Blowing into the microphone is one of the most annoying "gameplay mechanics" on the DS. Shame on Activision

Goddamnit, they took all the fun out of making fun of this; it's like shooting a deer with a homing missile, there's no sport in it.

Talk about a freaking movie that needs a decent update to Blu-Ray. Blazing Saddles on Blu-Ray is sweet, though. As is The Life of Brian.

I cringed when I read "blow out the fire." Guitar Hero is getting stupid with this "Battle mode" crap.

I thought "blow out the fire" was added as a joke, that maybe the fire on the side was there to show that you are doing well...or something.

Seriously developers...are you even paying attention to us when we say we hate having to blow into the DS microphone? First time I did it, it was funny. The second time, not so much. I had to stop playing Super Princess Peach at work because of the submarine stages. Nothing like getting "what the fuck is he doing" looks from co-workers.

...yes, I own and play Super Princess Peach. Shut up, it's a fun game.

everybody knows this DS release will end up being swept under the rug and have all of its copies buried in a hole in Mexico, right where the E.T. game was buried.
