Not News: Mega Man 9 secret nugget remains undiscovered photo

Shortly after Mega Man 9 was released nearly a year ago, Seth Killian of Capcom-Unity.com announced that he'd seen something in the game that we hadn't. Ever since then, we've been searching, scrounging, and hacking the hell out of Mega Man 9 to try and find it, and so far, we've got nothing.

Well, maybe not nothing. There are plenty of Mega Man 9 secrets floating around the internet, many of which can be seen here on Seth's blog. A lot of those nuggets are new to even me, and I've seriously played the crap out of Mega Man 9. Even after all that, Seth says we still haven't found the secret, though he makes a point to tell us that we are "halfway towards discovering" it. What the hell, Seth? That's like saying someone is "halfway towards being pregnant".

The more vague Killian gets, the more I want to know what he's talking about. For all we know, this "nugget" is cooler than the the Wood Man/Cut Man cameos in the Saturn version of Mega Man 8, or the secret hadouken arm in Mega Man X. The suspense is almost enough to make me want to give away my Mega Man 20th anniversary t-shirt signed by Keiji Inafune to whomever can find this secret first. Almost.

mmmmmmm, I was just thinking about this a while ago, wondering if anyone ever found out that secret. I wonder what the heck it could be?

I know the secret. Are you ready for it?

Wait for it.

There is no secret. He just wants everyone to play the game more. Good job Seth.

He must be bored as hell if he keeps talking about it. How about a hint Seth? A super 1337 prize with a deadline? Or maybe just STFU.

I'll bet it's nothing. It's probably just a scam to get people to keep playing. Remember back in the 90s when there used to be rumors like "You can fight Sheng Long in Street Fighter 2", and people would stay in arcades for hours spending quarters trying to do it.

Midway even used to start their own rumors. They said you could unlock a character named Rain in UMK3, even though he wasn't actually in the game(he was later added to the console version though).

I find it hard to believe that not one person has found this so called "nugget" and put it all over the internet when they've had a year to do it. I say it's either something so insignificant that people don't even realize it's the thing Seth was talking about when they see it, or it's nothing at all.

If there really was a hidden nugget, we'd probably have to buy it as DLC.

Well if it is a scam to keep people playing, what the fuck is the point of it? People who are looking for the secret are playing the game... its not like people are hearing "OH MAN THERE'S A SECRET IN MEGA MAN 9?! I GOT TO GO BUY THAT GAME SO I CAN FIND IT!!!" Thats just fail

But whatever it might be, it will be the biggest let down of forever.

@Holmes
What are the "plenty of Mega Man 9 secrets floating around the internet..."?
I'm not privy.
I think this "secret" may just be a slight viral way of advertising the game more. I dunno...
Damn conspiracy theorist in me.
Whatever.
Mega Man 9 still rocks!

Somebody on his blog was listing a bunch of really ridiculous, almost-impossible possibilities.
This one is my favorite:
"whittle Dr. Wily's last form to 1 hit point and then use the secondary ability of the 'M-Tank' to defeat him. (Or use the 'M-Tank' on the 'Memory Chip' which Dr. Wily drops)"

Anyone tried that? I doubt it works but it would be hilarious if it did.

I disagree covah, if he's keeping tabs on this as much as he is, it must be something good.

and quite frankly, this whole thing is awesome, i remember playing NES, SNES and N64 games and discovering random secrets for the first time, and it was great. The internet has ruined that feeling, so this is kind of exciting.

So i accept this challenge Capcom! and don't stop there!

As long as people keep playing it there's still interest in it. If people are playing it they're more likely to buy DLC for it and they're more likely to talk about it and tell their friends about it.

I'm still very much intrigued, I love this game. I'll just leave the frantic searching to other internet dudes who have even more free time to piss away than I do.

The "halfway there" thing is interesting. Maybe it's some Noby Noby Boy-esque shenanigans, where everyone's game data is accumulated and we have to kill Dr. Wily a million times.

DemonEyes23, go to Youtube and search for "Megaman 9 Secrets." There is a three-part series where the dude shows some neat little tips and tricks from the game, most of which should be apparent if you're a big fan of the game and/or series.
