At the same time, try and finish what you're already working on, then we'll talk.
This is the video game equivalent to patting your head and rubbing your stomach at the same time. Only way awesomer than either of those shit things.
- Terrible protagonist, horribly cliched. Cloud and Squall are emo enough as it is. Neku wasn't even interesting.
- Basically stole the plot to s number of Shin Megami Tensei games, SMT Nine in particular (only released in Japan, but still, Google it).
- Gameplay was a confusing, poorly designed mess.
SMT:Devil Survivor was worlds better than this game, and ironically accused of being a TWEWY rip-off by the know-nots that had no experience with SMT, where demons tend to outbreak in Shibuya all the fucking time.
/goes back to playing Devil Survivor Overclocked
The first is my favorite DS game by far. One of the first games to actually put the dual screens AND the touch screen to good use.
A sequel would probably mean breaking down and buying a 3DS, but by the time it comes out, I'm sure Nintendo will have the 3DSDubNub out and I'll buy that.
Hell, I wouldn't mind seeing a new character take the spotlight. Neku grew up a lot in TWEWY so there wouldn't be much point in continuing his story.
What traditional button layout, is the 3DS offering, over the DS? The buttons are all exactly the same, but they only added a analog stick to it. So you thought a touchscreen was a gimmick on the DS? Than why does the PSVita have a touchscreen now? Is it still a gimmick? Is it a gimmick on the iPhone as well? I just don't get how people automatically screams gimmick, when Nintendo does something, but they praise other company's to the high heavens, for doing what Nintendo did 6 years ago. Now all of a sudden, its revolutionary and not a gimmick at all. Whatever!
Neku was a fine character once you finished the game. In fact, the ending is what made it so special.
SPOILER
The fact that you don't win the "battle", and instead the happy ending comes from the villain redeeming himself thanks to your efforts was... wow.
SPOILER OVER
The whole difficulty system was great and created an amazing risk-reward system.
I for once welcome TWEWY 2, but I hate that this guy is biting more than he can chew
I really liked the game, I wouldn't call it a MegaTen ripoff though. It threaded on similar themes but the story was secondary to the gameplay for me. As a whole was very good
Can't compare it to Devil Survivor because they were doing two different things gameplay and story-wise.
agreed
although I think the second screen is the real gimmick. I mean I like my ds, but how many games REALLY take full advantage of both screens? I'm tired of ds games where one screen is entirely devoted to an inventory screen/map, which can be convenient sometimes, but it seems like the vast majority of ds games could be pulled off on a single touch screen system. (although ironically, The World Ends With You is the only game I can think of that really does take advantage of both screens, so I guess my point is a little misplaced)

If there is a TWEWY sequel, Im sold.
Its the best DS game ever.
I love that some pubes here are ragging on Neku...
I'll admit that I'm a bit worried about a sequel though. First of all, they need to finish their current projects. Second, it's very likely that they will fuck the game up by bringing Neku back. His story is over, I say bring in a new cast in a similar scenario and a different location than Shibuya.
Can't say I'm surprised at all the hate here, the game isn't for everyone.
@The Silent Protagonist
Neku is a character he is all about growth, he starts out emo, but gets better as the game goes on. Also I don't see how the game copied the SMT series at all. The theme of 7 days is in A LOT of things so if anything the SMT series copied it from somewhere else.
@Karavision
Would you like some cheese with that whine?
But it's not a gimmick just because you disliked the battle system. It's a new way to play a game, simple as that. Hell, the touch screen in Ocarina of Time 3D made things ten times more efficient due to shortcuts. Some games use it as a gimmick, of course, but it's not gimmicky just because it's there.
I love SMT. I also loved TWEWY. Did they have some similarities? Sure. Does that mean one rips off the other? No, especially considering Devil Survivor was about demons invading Tokyo, where TWEWY is about people thrown into a mysterious game in Shibuya.
I'm not sure what they could do with a sequel. Place it somewhere other than Shibuya? Use Joshua as the only recurring character?
*SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER**SPOILER**SPOILER**SPOILER**SPOILER*
*SPOILER*Joshua is only the Composer of Shibuya*SPOILER*
*END SPOILER ALERT**SPOILER**SPOILER**SPOILER**SPOILER*
So the entire cast needs to be changed with a location shift.
No? Then I think you need to play that game again. It's the best game ever made.
The second reason I enjoyed the game was Sho Minamimoto. The way he talked adding "zetta" to everything and calling everyone hectopascals and yoctograms it was awesome. Mathematician slang is what sold me on this game. If it wasn't for those two things I might have fallen in with the crowd of people disappointed by the game. It was a good game, but not an amazing one. I hope this sequel is just as good, it's definitely on my do buy list.
