The guy's a goon, for sure, but I don't think what he's saying this time is entirely incorrect. He's blaming the riots of people being more desensitized to violence as a result of violent TV and videogames, which is a fairly important distinction from saying it's directly because of games themselves.
I actually wrote an article fairly recently considering this exact phenomenon and why gaming, though not directly to blame, needs to start diversifying its portrayal of violence as it becomes a more culturally important medium.

There are riots because the police is doing nothing. In Britain is politically incorrect for the police to harm the rioters, while it is perfectly logical for the rioters to do whatever they want. Journalist will find the excuses: they are poor, they are frustrated, they are poorly educated... Fuck it! They are animals and there should be policemen hitting them with bats instead of watching them.

I'm old enough to remember the 70's quite well... video games were NOT a common thing in the 70's... the Kent State riots and shootings... video games? What about the late 70's and the riots that happened during the N.Y. Blackouts? The list of riots - both before and after video games is pretty extensive, I'd just love to know his reasoning for riots in the pre-video game era.

I'm not a fan of Noel Gallagher but I do agree with him to an extent. While videogames aren't the sole blame of riots or violence in general, you can't deny they are a contributing factor.
And remember, just because Violent games don't affect you, doesn't mean they don't affect English teens from broken families.

Whenever someone even hints at video games being bad in any way Jim jumps all over them. I mean the guy said it was A cause, not THE cause. And that is a point I agree with.
Alot of people who watch/ play brutal stuff get accustomed to it and in some extreme cases they eventually do not get bothered by it. I know this happens for a fact because when I was a 'hardcore' gamer I used to play alot of FPS games and after years of playing them it got to the point where I wasn't as bothered by brutal things (both in video games and in real life) than others.
Does this mean I believe all video games should be banned? Of course not. But you can't deny the fact that some people have violent tenancies due to playing violent video games (along with other causes, such as lack of aspirations, lack of rolemodels, etc.).
