In a recent interview with MSNBC, Blizzard's vice president of game design, Rob Pardo, reveals that there's no way in hell Starcraft II will be released in 2007. All five people who were optimistic (and stupid) enough to believe that we'd actually see the sequel this year are off crying into their custom-made Terran helmets.
Despite the fact that the game was just revealed publicly a week ago, many might be surprised to hear that the team at Blizzard have been working on the game since wrapping up with Warcraft III. Pull out a calendar and weep -- that's five years ago, and they're still not done yet.
The good news is that quality games take time, and Blizzard is more than willing to spend as much time and money to make sure that Korea is happy with the final results. A poor sequel is how wars are started, people.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
and mmm that Blizzard makes mac compatible games...too bad I don't think my iMac will run this.
What Valve game are you playing 10 years later? The only re-play value any of their games has is CS and that was made by an asia man who sold it to them.
As far as SC goes, I don't know anyone except people in south korea who are still playing Starcraft, Warcraft 3 yes, so thats 5 years.
Diablo 2 is a 6 year game. I don't think anyone can make a 10 year replay value game.
SC 1.5 is the same game you've been playing for "10 years" so are you going to say 20 year game then?
The loyalty is absurd, open your eyes, they're lazy, greedy people and the talent has either retired or moved elsewhere.
SEE: "WoW Dungeon design protocol"
I suspect Q 3 - 4 2008.
And to people who say that it's Starcraft 1.5. Isn't that what most of us want? We loved the old Starcraft, but it is just outdated now. I welcome the same style of game with better looking and more units. It's the gameplay that I loved that is just an extra treat.
Why? How diffent it will be compared to original one?
New graphics, camera control, units, ships, zerg shit?
Bah, this kind of stuff don´t take so much time.
Maybe thats what YOU want and the Koreans. But not the cinema happy go lucky americans who want a story and innovation with shiny new technology.
I'm serious bored with StarCraft. Sure it's a great game but just because the Matrix is a good movie doesn't mean they should make it again with a few new characters and in high-definition.
This is SC, our favorite RTS yet it doesn't revolutionize the Genre like it did in 98? Instead we get a 90s RTS with 21st century graphics?
Raise your standards please.
nsolo1717: "Ghost" was not being made by blizzard they just provided the rights
i still play starcraft(broodwar mind you) on a private server. b.net died along time ago when little 10 year old's learned how to hack and thought it would be fun to mass carriers in 3min. however the private servers offer great gameplay and opponents. 2008 will mean that i HAVE been playing starcraft for 10 years.
and also, it was just announced. we were shown a couple of protoss units and one building. obviously we have no idea what they have in store for us.
You do make a good point, it's true I haven't played the game in quite a while for that reason. I guess what I should have said is I would enjoy the same 'style' of gameplay but with the added bonus of having another great in depth story.
But it is getting harder and harder to revolutionize the genre how much more can we really add into a game before it just becomes a convoluted mess.
Well said, but being the die-hard fan of RTS games from Blizzard, I just expected more for a 5 year development time and unlimited budget.
It will be interesting to see what Halo Wars has in store, but still, Warcraft 3 gave us Heroes and Zoom-in and some other stuff, StarCraft is looked at as the greatest RTS ever, so it's successors needs to live up to the same standards.
