Really? Are people really surprised by this? The story goes that Reuters of all places has "let slip" the fact that Visceral's Dead Space 2 is going to be released next year. EA has never officially confirmed the game, but we all knew it was coming, and I think very few people didn't expect to see it next year.
In any case, the relatively decent sci-fi shooter has been "confirmed" thusly: "Electronic Arts has a pair of horror offerings for gamers. The publisher recently shipped Dead Space: Extraction for Wii, which is a prequel to last fall's Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC hit. Dead Space 2 is in development for next year."
With the amount of media EA released for Dead Space, and with Dead Space: Extraction released for the Wii, there's no doubt that the publisher wants a franchise to come out of this, despite the less-than-blockbuster performance of the original game. So, the question is this: Do you want more Dead Space next year, or was one (or two) already enough for you?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Fairly tight controls, a unique approach to dispatching enemies and a great atmosphere far out weighted the middling story for me.
"I was somewhat disappointed when it didn't sell as well as I thought it would, but that can be chalked up to a poor release date IMO."
If you believe the stats from EA (1.5 million sales and 3 million players), then the second hand and rental market chewed up the sales.
Co-op would be also nice touch if it can bring it. I really like to see two players playing from two different locations (not on the same screen) and the eventual joining of the story arc toward the end.
Pass.
How was that movie?
I loved Pandorum. It had some definite story-related flaws, but nothing to mar the overall experience. Great acting and atmosphere, and a very cool ending.
Not sure I agree with your "Haloid" logic. So far, the only two people in this thread who have mentioned not liking Dead Space are Jim and Sexualchocolate, neither of whom like Halo.
I, on the other hand, love Halo, and Dead Space was probably my favorite game this year. It's actually one of the few games that I've not traded in after beating it (twice), I liked it so much.
And besides, how are Halo and Dead Space even comparable?
How the hell can "The Ripper" gun be topped? It's a freakin' circular saw powered by psychic energy. Or whatever.
One of the best games I played last year.
Hopefully its changes some core aspects of the game (wouldnt mind seeing no merchant) in favour of more horror / survival aspects.
Well, if Halo can do it as a shooter, I'm sure Dead Space will sell for an action/adventure game. The most half hearted and generic titles tend to sell the most anyway.
