No PS3 redesign coming to E3, says Sony photo

Last night and this morning, we've heard plenty of buzz on a PS3 redesign to be unveiled at E3, set to kick off in a couple of weeks. This isn't the first time we've heard of a redesign, and you'd almost have to believe that they have one in the works, but the timing definitely wouldn't be right if they're also going to talk about a new PSP at E3. Not that that's confirmed or anything. But we feel better about the PSP rumor than we do the PS3 one.

Sony had no problem shooting down the PS3 rumor. "We currently don't have any plans for a redesigned PS3," Sony UK tells CVG. That's good, because I don't think any of us have plans to buy a redesigned PS3 either.

I don't believe that they don't have any "plans" for a new one, of course. But even if they did have a new PS3 in the works, they wouldn't be bringing it to E3. That would be overkill. Then again, they could totally disappoint us and bring a new PS3 and no PSP Go. A PSP No Go, if you will.

Thank god, they need to focus on software and getting the firmware up to scratch[/obvious statement]

I would imagine that we would see a price drop on the current SKUs before Sony announces a new one.

I know they won't listen to me, but I hope they add in BC in some way/shape/form with any eventual redesign. BC is a great selling point with me, and gives new players access to what is still probably the best library on the planet (esp. counting PS1).

Can you get the PS3 in grey/white? I think the black unit is horrible; like a Digibox on cocaine, but it actually looks pretty nice in the grey.

when they start making a profit on every ps3 sold is about when they'll restructure the machine and give it the flux capacitor. the fans inside the ps3 are already running at 88 mph.

Lol Qraze. I'm sure my dad wouldn't mind one of these as he got slim line PS2 so he didn't have to borrow mine ever.

From all the rumors Sony is shooting down lately before E3, it almost seems like Sony currently has absolutely no plans for anything.

Ive always liked that mock-up, but it clearly doesn't have any room for a 3.5" SATA HDD.

Not that it matters, I've already bought 3 PS3s. I think I've met my quota.

I love the T3 mock up.
I haven't bought a PS3 yet as it is too expensive and i'm not keen on the george forman grill design of the current model.
If they released this, possibly at a lower price due to lack of ps2 playback and smaller HDD i'd buy it.

@DaedHead8: Not necessarily...if the redesign could somehow manage to lower input costs, it might be the catalyst for a price drop. Although, to be honest, it's hard to imagine how they could do that without having to make costly changes to their manufacturing/assembly lines.

I'd laugh if they bring the same "hey guys! PS2!" excuse from last year.

They better show at least more details on the new Ratchet & Clank and the rumored Sly Cooper.

i don't know, i currently do not own a ps3, and while it's pathetic library is one of the main reasons, i'd be more interested in it if it didn't look like a massive throbbing doom box.

I think it would be quite a good idea IMHO.

@ Peachboy

Says the owner of a literal walking doom box that could die at any time (assuming you have an xbox). Just a thought...

I own a PS3, it *is* a pathetic library, and the few titles it shares with the 360 perform better on Microsoft's gear. It's fucking depressing.

A case redesign at this point would be the perfect way to fist those of us who have been gutting it out the last few years, waiting for the system to mature.

It doesn't need a redesign, especially if a bunch of stuff would be taken out.

@Braumeister

I own a PS3 also, and the library is not pathetic anymore. It may have less than the 360, but that doesn't make it pathetic.

Seems pretty pathetic to me. I'm looking at my game library and my 360 titles outnumber PS3 about 4 to 1.

For example, I actually own more JRPG's for the 360 than Sony's box, which makes no sense, as nobody's buying the 360 in Japan!

I agree that things are picking up - for both platforms simultaneously - but so far the PS3 library is unimpressive.

Being objective here, I'm a PS2 fan, I have a hard time giving M$ my money.

Uhm the PS3's with no BC do have BC built in for Playstation 1 games Its the BC for PS2 games they lack...
I know this cause I got one of those and yesterday played tekken 3 on it, but I will buy another PS3 if they put in the PS2 BC back again.:)

Pathetic Library?

I'd call the library stuffed full of generic shooters, shoddy shovelware and old sports games pathetic.

Now the PS3 library has been proven to have more A-Grade games. It's all about quality, not quantity. I prefer having a few top of the pile games than a million halo games and all of the 2005,6,7,8,and 9 sports editions.

<--- Heads back to Socom (cannot put down!), perhaps dip my toes into some Killzone later, then a little MGS or Motorstorm.

Who needs 30 FPS's and 50 racing games when you've got the best of each genre? Just bring us a top notch RPG and I'll be happy happy happy.

Isn't most games now released on both systems, meaning that not counting games that came out before the system, its the same library of games on both systems? I never understood that. All the games I want are on both. *shrug*

Jeezus, Sonychocs. Do you ever stop? You have some seriously Sony endorsed OCD, my friend. Now there is usually some sort of psychological connection to the cause of OCD - what's your? Is it because Sony do such a shitty job of convincing us that the PS3 is a premier system, that you've taken up the mantle for yourself; a way to burn all those mental fidgets. It seems I always have to comment on one of your comments, and it's making me feel OCD myself. But I can't help it - you speak so much bollocks. I mean, who needs to diss the PS3 when you have tools like Sonychocs dragging their system through the mud with their hyperbole.
