No, going prone won't be an option in Battlefield: Bad Company 2, according to the game's lead writer and designer, David Goldfarb, but feel free to keep asking other questions or throw out feedback about the game.
Earlier last afternoon, Goldfarb made a stunning announcement about the second Bad Company via his Twitter account, saying "FYI: we will not add prone based on anything. You can stop asking now. (smiley face)" -- a point he really didn't have to make considering how prone-resistant EA DICE is. The game's official Twitter account backed Goldfarb up with a re-tweet, and added "but share your feedback with me," which we'll do shortly. The game needs more helicopters.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Prone is good for some games, but this game is perfect without it.
I can't say I've missed it much in the original BC. I still done okay crouching when I played as a sniper. However I find being an assault class is better, more hands on fun.
I don't see their reason for removing it, unless they wanna decrease the ammount of snipers... In which case I can't say they are doing a good job.
Bring on BF3!
Usually i hide, prone (takes about one sec<--wouldn't consider that long) take my shot, and move because enemies will be all over the place soon. Still, everyone can notice you much easier if you're crouching or simply standing.
Every developer straves for perfection, and wants his game to sell good. But leaving out basic things won't help. MW2 was picked on because it didn't have lean, and now BC2 will be picked on because it won't have prone. It's not THAT of a big deal, but still, if a game used lean+prone in 2001, why can't games in 2010 use both?
Why remove prone from the game? Because Bad Company has been, like pointed out earlier, a dumb out version of the Battlefield series. Small maps for more 'intense' action. Just give me another Battlefield 2142.
Oh and proning works best when you work as a team : one person snipes (IN PRONE POSITION because guess what : that's the only accurate position, IRL and in most of the BF series), the other goes heavy and guards your back.
Removing proning is a testament to the MWisation of shooters. It's BS.
Oh wells. I imagine it'll encourage people to move about more, which I'm sure will help overall gameplay, and dolphin diving will enrage us no longer. Thumbs up from me.
FUCK YOU "DOLPHIN DIVERS"!!!
Hell, that's one of my major beefs with Killzone. You can't go prone in that game either and it just bothers the hell out of me. There's no excuse for it.
1) Jump shotters
2) People who can't use camo effectively while crouching
3) People who want Bc to become Modern Warfare
I'm just glad they reimplemented parachutes and made the tracer easier to follow. I don't like how they gimped the shotgun. Overall seems like a better game.
Demo completely didn't sell me on the game. After playing MAG i found my perfect style of shooting and the destructible environments that they said was better than the original were the same. ALL that was different was when you blew up every bloody wall (apart from a few indestructible pillars) the houses fell down. Meh.
- Seconded. I enjoyed the BC2 beta, but I played way more of the MAG beta.
My book goes...
MAG > BFBC2 > MW2
Destructable environments are nice, a welcome addition to the genre, but not all that much better than the clunky destructable environments in BFBC1.
But no console compromises for mah BF3, DICE. plxplx?
The graphics are the best I have seen so far.
Just kidding, quit whining. The developers are doing what they feel is going to make for the best game experience. Just because a previous game had something, doesn't mean it needs to be in every game. Developers cut useless features out of sequels all the time.
That's the whole damn point of sniping. If you don't want to be a sniper, don't, but having a birds-eye view of the battlefield and taking controlled, calculated shots is the whole point, and the compromise is poor short-range effectiveness. No prone means you aren't concealed at long range AND aren't effective at short range. Even if there are bushes to hide in, it completely takes away from the realism.
MW2 isn't anywhere near being a realistic or tactical shooter, but the prone position is just as much about cover as it is accuracy. Again, snipers are vulnerable, as some of the posters here have been quick to point out. They sit out on their own with their face in a scope. This is why they should be able to go prone.
That said i'm loving the new aproach this new Battlefield has taken and I'm sure they will come back to old BF games in the future, I want some variation dammit!
Even more LOL @ the newbs saying 'this isn't MW2! No prone!' Pardon me, since when did Modern Warfare invent proning? Proning has been around for ages and is a STAPLE of sniperdom(tm).
Biggest LOL @ the idiots calling snipers pussies or campers. Apparently they've never fired a weapon in real life, much less actually taken a sniper course in the(any) military. That or they've never seen a good sniper movie. Pfft. Noobs.
I suck bawls at sniping but its still fun to me, as much as running into bullets and dying instantly is to you newbs who hate snipers.
Can you tell what side I'm on? :p

Ding ding ding... we have a winner.
