No pre-release demo planned for Modern Warfare 2 photo

Getting a feel for the retail version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 before it releases is going to be a tall order, even for industrious folk. Earlier this weekend, developer Infinity Ward made it clear that it has zero plans for a pre-release demo in a tweet now being read around the world. “No plan for a demo before launch,” the studio told a fan asking about a demo. And why not? Polish concerns. “The entire team is focused on polish all the way up to ship of the full game,“ the studio continued in the tweet.

A multiplayer beta, for that matter, isn’t going to happen either. Infinity Ward has made that clear on several different occasions, but we like re-iterating it because it hurts people in profound ways.

But you weren’t going to bother with a silly demo, right?

This game doesn't need a demo and they know it. If you want a warm up, try COD 4 Modern Warfare (1).

I know it's modern warfare 2 and it shouldn't differ too much from the original, but no beta and now no demo? Sounds kind of shady to me...

When you wrote "Polish concerns", somehow I assumed you were talking about Poland. Yeah IW, better focus on quality.

@ cannonball,

"I know it's modern warfare 2 and it shouldn't differ too much from the original, but no beta and now no demo? Sounds kind of shady to me..."

Oh well. You'll buy it anyway.

O'Really? You're saying there won't be a demo for the "biggest game release of all time" - I would imagine they would NEED a demo to create some HYPE for it.

All the sheeple are buying this anyway. I will personally be trying to steal a copy as I want it so bad but don't want to allow my purchase to say "Hey activision, it's perfectly fine to charge £55 for a fucking game!"

I'm curious if they have ruled out a demo altogether though. While it is easily a title with huge mass market appeal, I know in my case I wasn't convinced about the Call of Duty series until the hugely positive word of mouth over CoD4, and if a hardcore gamer like me--and one who enjoys first person shooters, at that--hadn't already gotten into the game, then there must still be others who would benefit from a demo. And if some gamers would, then Infinity Ward/Activision would too.

They're probably well aware of the fact that the game will sell just fine regardless of whether or not people get a chance to sit with it at all. Hell, I'M chomping at the bit.

Though a pre-release demo would likely win over some of those not yet converted.

They know it will sell, there is no need of a demo.

Just play the first one and imagine it being ~1.3x as awesome?

Well. When it comes to the PSN they get charged for releasing a demo, for the first month at least. Maybe they want to wait until the game is out awhile so less people are likely to download the demo? Probably a dumb theory.

I think The MW2 development team should get a Severed Greed Hand in their mailboxes.

@sexualchocolate

I'd have that same ideology too, but I'd like to think at least half of it goes to IW, and that's who I'd really want to give my money to.

As much as I'd happily pay IW £40 directly, the only way available to us to communicate that we're not happy about a change in a capitalist society is not to accept it, not to buy it.

I do not want to look back at 2009 as the year that all games with mass appeal became £55. - I feel I will though. This game will sell at whatever price Activision set. They have the gaming community over a barrel.

IW can blame Kotick.

I'll probably wait for MAG, play some Uncharted 2 and Demon Souls in the mean time. - Demon Souls by the way - Fucking amazing.
